further questions about my weird idle, studdering problem during cold
I came to this board for over a month already. Previously I've brought up an issue with my car where it'd idle gay when it's cold. It suppose to be at 2k rpm for the warm up session, I think but every now and then the rpm will drop to around 1k and goes back up. This happens randomly and has a 2 to 10 second interval. This ONLY occurs during the warm up session.
I have replaced distributor cap/ distributor rotor/spark plugs/spark plug cables/fuel filter/air filter. They are probably unrelated to this issue but I thought I'd bring it up anyways.
Today while warming up, I thought I'd open the hood and I notice the air filter, I had replaced with a short ram intake, stopped sucking air during the rpm drop. I also hear a weird "bo-bo" sound whenever the gay idle occurs. It's hard to describe, sounds kind of like some kind of valve open and close. Think dribbling a basketball but with a lower tone, I guess.
Again I want to emphasis that it ONLY happens when the car is warming up. What could be the problem?

Most definatly its you iacv. Probably crudded up, you should get some carb cleaner, take the iacv off and spray it till its good and clean
Well you sig say 97 b18b so that would put the iacv on the backside of the intake manifold facing the firewall. Sometimes they will get stuck open or closed and cause idle problems like you mentioned. Mine was stuck open and even when it was warmed up it was idleing at 2,000.
i found it
I don't have any carbon cleaner at the moment but I'll check with kragen tommorow.
what if I spray it and the problem remains? do I need to resort to replacing it or it could be a different failure else else where?
thanks hb97, you've been helpful
can I start the engine without the iacv connected to the intake manifold? I want to see if the valve open/closewhen the idle start to bitch which will ultimately confirm that this is the source of the problem.

i removed both hose and the eletric cable and I found water in both hose? I thought air goes through these hoses instead of water? Should I be worried?
anyways I used carbon cleaner to spray in both hose and the grill. I''ll just see what happens when I put it back.

I cleaned it good but it didn't fix my problem.
Should I go to the junk yard to find a new iacv and pray?

Before you go to the junk yard and spend hard earned cash, you should get the two wire that come off the iacv. Touch one on the negative terminal of the battery, and the other just barley touch to the positive and you should hear a click. If not you iacv is probably defective. Do not apply current to the iacv for longer than it takes to hear the click, in other words don't hold the wires on the battery terminals for more than a second.
