compression question-how does it work?
OK, I understand that by bumping up compression you can utilize more power from the engine. my question is; how does this work, i.e. how does compression correlate(sp?) to more power? sorry, this may be a repeat/dumb question, but I am at a loss. TIA
I could be wrong, but the way I understand it is in relation to the explosion that happens inside the cylinder. The bigger the explosion the faster the piston will be forced downward making the crank spin faster. When you compress the air/fuel mixture you get higher compression and create a larger explosion.
when u increase the compression u are basically reducing the amount of space left in the combustion chamber and the piston..... when u increase compression, u acntually "compressing" the air and fuel more and more... this state of the fuel and air, gets very flamable. as soon as a spark shows, the explosion its more stronger,,,, a more agresive and bigger the explosion the faster and more stronger its going to push the piston downwards, causing u to gain mroe HP.....hope that helped to ya
