Default carbon kevlar sunroof done (pics) ...... 56k NoNoNoNoNoNo

finally warmed up and I took some pics of the first one we made , construction is two layer carbon fiber with a center layer of kevlar , these will be available in a few weeks but they are hand made so its normally a one week turnaround.

it rivets around the perimeter of the open roof when you pull the sunroof out , I ran a bead of black silicone around mine to seal it up but it fits so tight it might not even be needed.

total weight is less than one lb , the sunroof weighs somewhere around 40lbs.

price is 375 plus shipping.

the 96-00 civic cpe will be finished this week and I'll post pics of that when its finished.

two methods of mounting will be available , one retains full function of the sunroof glass and uses the factory rubber seal , it simply bolts in place of the glass which is the heaviest part of the assembly , the other will anchor like mine , with rivets from the inside.

the next application will be 94-00 integra and we also have an 91-94 SE-R unit already finished.

these are HAND made , they do have slight imperfections but the pattern and the weave is perfect , you will need to specify whether you would want shiny or dull , it impacts the weight of the unit slightly , mine is the dull finish.

Bling Blang ------

That is awesome, I have been thinking of replacing my moon roof with a plexi one or something of the sort. I didn't even think of that. That looks really sweet.

Yes, that is the unfinished side of the CF part.

Doctor C: It was hard to see in the photos but are you still using the rubber surround seal from the oem sunroof or is that Black RTV? Waht weight cloth did you use?
Nice work

The inner Armid layer is a good safety measure, it will help keep the composite part from breaking into separate pieces like a full carbon part would.

Jamie,
Are you worried about flex when air is traveling through the car or is the Kevlar stiff enough to hold up?

carbon fiber saves almost 40 lbs over the glass/assembly.

I thought what it was "trying to accomplish" was obvious.

you should read up on chassis/handling dynamics and let me know what you think afterwards.

the mold was made with the glass seal still on for a good fit , we painted the edge black because it was a little cloudy from the mold release.

not sure on the weight of cloth , my CF guy made it , I only helped out / watched.

I can stand on it Morgan.
its stronger than the roof of the car.

Nice part... sure beats replacing the roof...

Is the sunroof mechanism still attached if only the glass is replaced?

no.

no leaks either , the fit is so tight it goes in with a rubber mallet.

Interesting. Can you tell the difference with the extra weight removed from the roof?

So will this be the same as the sunroof glass, which will open up? cuz it loks like you screwed it into the metal where the glass was meaning that it would never open up.

I did the duckbill , cage and sunroof at once.

I can tell the cage is there and the duckbill changed the car dramatically , but the sunroof aside from weight on a scale , I cant tell.

Function over form. It doesn't open at all.

Maybe you could start making the fuel door as well.

I only make stuff to save weight , the fuel door would be a cosmetic piece.

I dont do cosmetic stuff.

How strong is the CK?

I would think that replacing the glass with something not as rigid would cause the chassis to flex more.
