goto plumbing shop like home depot get a 6" pipe with diameter of same size as inner ring on carrier bearing, bang it in with a sledge hammer ... dont bang the bearing in the soft shell casing only on the hard spot.... oil the insides before hammering in
The guy who is going to install this for me says he doesn't need a press either. I was curious to know how he is going to do it, or if I could do it before I bring him the lsd and tranny... Thanks for the heads up.
There are three ways to get the bearings on;
1. use a press
2. heat up the bearing (or carrier) to the point where it expands, allowing it to slide on
3. beat it with a hammer, hopefully with a soft brass piece in contact with the bearing.
Now think about this, you paid better than a grand for the Quaife and bearings ----- do you really want somebody beating on it with a hammer or heating up stuff to a temperature where it may lose temper?

I paid $40 to have the old bearnings removed, spedo gear swapped, final drive swapped and new bearings installed. It seemed fair enough to me.
Don't waste money on getting it done.
I placed the bearing in the oven at 300 degrees, and the LSD in the freezer. It drops right onto it.
But the speedo gear might be harder.. I've never messed with that.
