Type One Racing T1R 2.5" Exhaust Install Photojournal / Review with LOTS of Pics (56k DEATH)
Like a kid on Christmas Eve I was barely able to sleep last night knowing that the phattest of all phat exhausts would arrive at my door step this morning, I was blazingly excited. At the time, I hadn't really decided whether or not I'd install it myself, I figured I'd wait to see what it is like in the morning and let the weather decide what I was going to do. Much to my enjoyment the weather today was AWESOME! So I decided to go sit outside and wait for the UPS man to come and bring me my new fancy exhaust.
So here is my little photo journal of my day:

Every good post starts out with a cat
If my camera didn't focus so damn slow this would be possibly the cutest R picture ever made, at the time I was just trying to keep myself occupied...

The UPS guy usually comes at 10:00 in the morning, I'm out here early, just to be safe. I swear the UPS drivers go to Ninja school to learn how to sneak down your driveway and leave their stupid little "Sorry we missed you" post it note... I'm not about to let that happen today.

Holy ****! A truck coming down my driveway...! Oh wait... fuggin' Airborne Express.

Apparently my father is tweaking out his lawn mower with a phatty 42" deck.

YES!!! Here comes my exhaust... Wooohooo

Two sexy little boxes!

I know there has to be a T1R sticker in here somewhere... That **** is going on my car first! Aww... Oh well, just an exhaust
(Packaged very nicely I might add.)

WTF? I thought this thing was a 2.5" exhaust, what the hell is this damn buttplug in the end of it...

Ahh... Much better.

Now we'll just put that thing where it belongs...

BLING BLING!!!

I'm hard. Blue tip = Oh baby.

2.5" of goodness.

Hmm... I found some jack stands in our barn, they look kind of old and shitty, but they should do the job.

Jacking this yellow bitch's *** up in the air...

Hmm... there seems to be a problem.

Meet the crank, it's my new worst enemy.

Bad planning on my part. Why the **** do I have a shitty gravel driveway?

That's it, I need a new ******* jack... Ah! A $50 high-lift jack with two jack stands, I'm ******* in!

Let's go to Sears!

SEARS!!!

Some **** about tools... They better have my fuggin' jack.

The time is now 12:45, after frequenting the Foxvalley Sears and speaking to possibly the most unhelpful angst-filled teenager I have ever dealt with in my entire life, we have determined that they don't have the jack I wanted, much less ANY of tha jacks advertised! BUT! They do have TWO of the $50 jack package at the Bolingbrook Sears!

So let's go to ******' Bolingbrook!

Holy ****! What a suprise! They are out of the $50 jack package, and HAVE BEEN SINCE BEFORE THE SALE STARTED. I was asked if I want a rain check. I decided screw it, and buy the cheap $30 jack instead. It should be fine, I figure.

I bet he's sprayin' NAAAWWWSSSS

So this time I decided to put wood under the jack stands so they don't sink in to my driveway. Thanks to the shittiness of this new jack, I can only get the car that high off the ground. Oh well, I'm a skinny white kid, shouldn't be a problem I figure... At least it's on jack stands now.

2:00 and I'm finally getting the tools out to install!

**** YOU **** **** *** RUSTY BOLT TAKE SOME WD-40 YOU PIECES OF ****. Oh ****, I think I just stripped one, ow, I have no idea how I am going to reach the 3rd bolt on top... *Grunt* *Wheeze* I can do this... I can do this...

**** it, we're going to Midas.

40 minutes of effort on one bolt... *sigh* What a day.

Here's what I should have done at 10:00 this morning... Taken the damn thing and had it installed. Once the car was raised in the air they had to take a torch to ALL the bolts to get them un-done. Watching them do this, as well as all the finagling needed to get the old exhaust off and put the new one in, I had ENTIRELY underestimated both how high I needed to get the car off the ground as well as the difficulty involved in this project given the shitty tools and jack I had. But, never the less I gave it a try and didn't feel that bad about failing and giving in to Midas.

Here's the finished exhaust, god that blue tip is sexy.

MMmmm... Stainless

I LOVE that muffler/tip! They then took the car down and I drove it home...!

More blue tip... I love this thing.

I hope this thing stays this shiney...

The resonator reflecting my driveway looks neat
I made a little movie of the before and after sound of the car. I'm not sure what the hell the deal is with the white smoke on the stock run, I'm guessing it's just because it was cold out and the car wasn't all the way warmed up.

I am very happy with the T1R exhaust. The sound it produces is deep and throaty at low RPM's, but at the same time it is very quiet at cruising speeds around 3000-4000 RPM. Basically, driving down the highway at 80MPH is just as quiet as the stock exhaust in my opinion. I also have an AEM Cold Air Intake on my car and the sound of the intake and the exhaust is amazing. The car starts out in the low RPM's and all you hear is the rumble of the exhaust getting louder and louder until the VTEC crossover hits and all you hear is the engine screaming. It's like the sound transfers from the back to the front. I took my girlfriend for a ride and we couldn't determine whether the exhaust got quiet in VTEC, or if the engine is so much louder it just drowns it out. Either way, the exhaust tone of the T1R is pure sex, and I am beyond happy with it.
As far as performance gains are concerned, all I can go from is the butt dyno, and we all know how inaccurate that can be. In my opinion the car has a much improved bottom-end, still nothing compared to a big displacement engine, but it is noticably better none the less. In VTEC the car pulls like mad, I couldn't believe the difference. With my driving style (and shitty tires) when I'm accellerating fast I often chirp the tires in second. Driving home from Midas I chirped so hard out of second I lost traction for a second and then managed to chirp third, something my car has never done.
Faster? Yes. How much faster... I'm not sure. Worth the cash? Hell. *******. Yes. I got mine from Mike at IPS Racing, I highly reccomend this stainless steal blue-tipped bitch.
If anyone has any questions, I'll do the best I can to answer them about the exhaust, or if anyone has any pic requests I'll take them first thing tomorrow morning!
Edit 2: Since it appears all the pictures I took of the exhaust were at an angle, it kind of looked like it was crooked, here is a picture from directly behind the car. As you can see the exhaust itself isn't crooked, it just isn't centered in the middle of the exhaust cutout... *shrug*

Edit 3: Ok, I finished the 2nd video, which is of the T1R exhaust inside and outside of the car. Since I already have the stock exhaust off, I didn't have anything to compare it to like the other video... Or did I

That just seems to be the way it hangs. All the hangers are on all the way, it's not on crooked, it's just not centered in the cutout for the exhaust in the bumper, it hangs more towards the left side. When you're looking at it straight on it's straight. *shrug* Good thing I don't go to car shows
try adjusting your rubber hangers.
looks like you live out in the stix
should have gotten a wrx with a driveway like that

TypeR 599: I did, it doesn't rub against the bumper any more, when the Midas dude first put it on it was touching the bumper, so we got under there and jerked it around a little bit and got it where it is now. I need to take a picture of it from the back straight on, it does kind of look crooked from the angles I have pictures of, it's just off center.
scott_k: Yes, 2.5" bottle-neck free.

i liked the watch pictures
Also, Tag Heuer for life!
how much did george foreman charge you for the install?
lookin' good. blur out your license plate #'s tho and also it looks like the exhaust is crooked in the second to last picture. other than that, enjoy the exhaust!
Bahaha... No ****, I got a speeding ticket in my CRX on the road with the train going like 79. First time in my entire life I ever saw a cop on that road.
Tomorrow I'm going to make another video of in-car footage and driveby footage for B2finity... I wish I would have done this before for a good comparison between the two
Any other requests for pics/video?

And I agree, I hate the videos people usually make of exhausts. You need to have a side by side comparison to know what's up rather than just a movie of what the new one sounds like
