gaskets
i've just received a new z6 and was told that i should put in new gaskets. the motor has 72k on it and is coming from a salvage yard. what all should i do to it before i install it? and if i should get new gaskets, how much do they cost and what would be the best place to get them? thanks for all the help guys
You should get a new timing belt and oil filter for sure. You should also consider a new water pump too maybe some spark plugs. I don't know, hmm............ Anything else guys?
What gaskets? I would do the ones that are obviously leaking if you can tell (motor could be washed). Unless you have lots of "tune up" money in your install budget i would just do the basics -fuel filter, plugs, cap, rotor, t-belt. tensinor, water pump, oil change, maybe a thermostat and plug wires at most.
Also doing a rear main seal is tit when the motor is out. I would do poly shift bushings too $11. They help a little and you will have the linkage apart anyway.
I guess it depends on milage too. If you know what it is.

ok. thanks guys. well, i just got a new water pump on my old engine so nothings wrong w/that. were gonna change out the t-belt just to be safe and im gonna get all new gaskets to be safe too. cuz it would really suck to blow something and have something important go wrong.
