Black was different in 00 and 01. Nighthawk .... for one year and Flamenco Black .... the other. An admittedly small difference, but a difference nonetheless.

Correct me if I'm wrong - I thought the 2001 comes with thin all-black floor mats and trunk mat as standard equipment, whereas the 2000 (like the '97-98) has thick check-patterned floor mats as optional at extra cost.
The wheels also have a slightly different finish.

You sure about that? I've never heard that before.

No, they don't.

You are correct about the floor mats because I have the black ones in my 2001 and all my friends have 98 and 00 R's and they have the checkered floor mats. The trunk mat was optional I think because mine doesnt have it.

Wheels did not change.

The "Type R" trunk mat only comes in checkered and was always an option.

Someone posted here that the wheels from one year had a slightly more textured/pebbly finish than from another year. However, it's possible to see slight variations like that from one car to another (the wheel supplier may have changed their finishing process) even within the same model year.

I believe both years use the same part number for the wheel, which means it's not really considered a change at all, according to Honda.
Both the black and the polished ITR shifters also apparantly have the same part number. Comparing a '00 wheel with an '01 (at least the ones I've seen), it is quite noticeable how the '00 wheels have completely smooth spokes, whereas the '01 wheels have a "rougher" texture to the sides of the spokes.

intake cam in the 98 R is different, not 00-01. Greyish floor mats in 00, black in 01

Are you sure about that? For significant changes, this is rarely the case.
The information came from Mike K. Perhaps Honda saw the change as less significant, since if used on an '00+, it will be the same finish as stock, and if used on a '97/'98, the stock shifter will attach to the boot, covering the shifter anyway.
