Default subs wired in series??

my friend sold a box with 2 12's in it to my gf, now i have to install the crap......he wired the subs in series.

this means i only have to hook up one of the terminals on the side of the box(the one everything is connected to)???????

how do i hook it to the amp? just use one of the speaker terminals or..use one pos for the right and one neg from the left???

you mean like this?

(originaly posted by Risingson)

["...You can re-wire wour woofers in series. You probably have them in parallel right now (they each have separate positive and negative wires, and are doubled up in the output connectors). Try:
- Positive connection from amp to one woofer

- Negative connection from that woofer to the positive connection of the other woofer

- Negative connection of the second woofer back to the amp

Double check the instructions with your amp, because I am NOT 100% SURE of that connection method...but I think that's how it works. Good luck ~ ..."]

i havent tried this method yet, so im not sure if it works or not

hey bud, what is the resistance on the subs? what's the minimum resistance the amp can handle? i.e.) 1 ohm stable or 2 ohm stable...

also, what are the maximum power output of the amp and handling of the subs. i can't really help you maximize your system until you let us know that.

usually hooking subs up in series is the last resort.

good luck!!!

yes, listen to super, when i first installed my amp, i didnt know that my subs needed 4 ohms each but my amp only pushed 4 ohms total, so my amp kept cuttin out. i would suggest only using a serial connection if your setup resembles mine, but you should really check before you install anything

look on the back and see what it says, usually the pioneers say how many ohms they are. if it dont say, take it to a local shop and have them test the subs. unless you have a multimeter layin around.
