Default Having problems with my B16 Swap, Help!...

I am having 2 different problems with my B16 swap

1. I am having a problem with the wiring of the motor, 4 out of the 5 clips connect to the car, however the white clip on the drivers side of the car does not fit into the B16 harness, the b16 harness has 13 pins, while the crx one has 8, is this the clip where i wire all my own Vtec wires? if so, shoudln't it only b e 4 wires? ( I have a '91 CRX HF BTW)

2. I can't seem to find the speedo sensor, i looked where the original one was on the original motor, but on the B16, there is a box with wires clipped into it (I have a Y1 Tranny)

I am trying to finish the swap tonight, if someone could explain what i have to do to make it work, i would greatly appreciate it

Thanks

This is because that harness will not work with your car. You will need to do the MPFI conversion on your old harness, or send both the JDM harness and your HF harness to HAsport and they will do it for you for a fee. There are a few people who do it on H-T but their names escape me at the moment.

Sounds like an electronic VSS but im not really sure on that one, a pic would help.

B16 comes with an electronic VSS, reason for the box with wires clipped to it. You need to replace it with a mechanical one that you can plug your speedo cable to. FYI, I have one for sale for $60 shipped. Or you can try transferring your old cable VSS and see if it'll work. Some peeps say they do but it didnt in my swap. I had a DX cable tranny though.

my car is MPFI, so why would i need to convert it?

what needs to be done to make my harness work with the other? can i just cut both off and connect the wires of the same color?

i assume this is where the wires are for vtec?

how do i replace the VSS with a mechanical one?

it's held by one screw...unbolt then pull out. I dont have a pic right now (have it at home). if you look at your old tranny, the vss is where your speedo cable is connected to. Pull the whole thing, without disconnecting cable. Drop it in the B16 tranny and see if it fits/works.

do i have to remove the transmission to do this? the motor is in the car already, willl i have to pull the tranny to do this?

what will happen if i don't convert it from an electric one to a mechanical one?

You dont have to pull out the tranny...the VSS sits on top of the tranny, somewhat underneath the TB...I thought you saw the black box with wires sticking out...just unscrew and pull out, unless you're referring to a different box. Anyway, if you dont convert from electronic to mechanical, you wont be able to run your speedo and (no speedo=no vtec). Another option in case you want to keep the electronic VSS is to convert to an electronic or JDM SiR cluster. Either way, you have to deal with the wiring. Let me know, if you need anything else.

so all i have to do is unbolt the box?

i appreciate all your help by the way

the other question is, what do i do about the harness

I was thinkin that i should cut both ends off and connect the wires that are the same color, but what do i do about the extra 5 wires? are those the vtec wires?

Thanks

dont cut any wires! check http://www.hasport.com and follow their instructions on quick wiring "how to"...I can walk you through the process but read on first so you'll know what's going on. You need to add 4 wires from your ECU to the connector and from the connector, you need to add wires to the sensors if yours dont fit. (knock sensor, vtec solenoid, vtec oil pressure, 2nd O2)

Yes, i have read that thoroughly

I just got a chance to look at the motor, do you know if it is possible to be able to even run the factory B16 harness?

i understand what needs to be modified on the ECU end, but what do i do in the engine bay area?

I looked at the wire colors on the factory B16 harness and only some of them are similar to the ones on the CRX harness

what can i do to make this as simple as possible? this swap is becoming a big headache for me, i am about to give up on this car, I have been working non-stop for about a week on it, but there have been so many issues with parts not working that i have no will to even look at the car anymore

I truly appreciate your help with my swap

any help would be great

Thanks

Sorry but I dont know what a B16 harness looks like but to get your motor to run just add the 4 extra wires from your ECU to these sensors...if you're not sure if you already have them...trace these colored wires to your ecu...But I'm almost positive that you dont have them yet so just add these wires and you should be good to go. I'm assuming that you already upgraded or you have mpfi. Make sure that these wires are connected to your ecu as well...A3 Yel Injector #4, A7 Red Injector #2, B10 Orn CKP (connects to distributor), B12 Wht CKP (connects to distributor).........additional wires C8 (white) Secondary O2, A8 (Grn/Yel) VTEC Solenoid, B5 Blu/Blk VTEC Oil Pressure, B19 Red/Blu Knock Sensor

done use the b16a wire harness its way to much work use your stock harness and add 4 wires its alot easyer i used my stock harness cause the b16 had like 20 wires in different places.

that is what your speedometer sending unit on the b16 tranny should look like. u need a mechanical one. call 916-638-3311 thats the number for HAP recycling in cali. ask for a mechanical speedometer sending unit out of a 90-91 acura integra. their 45bucks plus shipping and garenteed to work or u get anotherone for like 6 months. u can also email them but i don;t have the adress.

alright well i replaced my VSS last night, so that is no longer a problem, I also transfered my wiring harness from the old motor to te new one, so now my problem is, where do i connect the 4 additional wires, i have found 3 out of the 4 wires, i think the one i don't have is the knock sensor

From your ECU, B19 to the knock sensor. You may have to get a plug from a donor harness (i know i made one for myself). Round, dime size plug. But you can worry about your knock sensor later on...Your motor will start without it being connected (except you'll get a code 23). *Tip for axles, 90-91 teg axles and same year intermediate shaft will work everytime.
