Thicker oil is better for older/high miles engines. So, I would use 10-30

Agreed...but you'll probably find that it won't "wind up" as fast with the thicker oil.

and why would u recommend the 10 weight over the 05 weight? i am just curious thats all all my other motors were newr with about 10-20k on them so i always used 5w-30 but since this one has about 50k and is also a jdm motor i dont really know what to go with. since ill be running it a bit hard i want the best oil for it

I thought b18 motors should use 5w-30. This is what factory recommends.

Mobile 1 is a good synthetic but it really doesn't make any difference if you use synthetic or not if it hasn't had synthetic in it from the very first oil change....on the other hand, synthetic is a good oil to use if you do a lot of stop and go drivin'.....

let me see, both 5w-30 and 10w-30 are 30 weight oils at operating temperature. even if you were to use a 10w-40 you wouldnt be able to notice the difference in horsepower.

Between those two, I would use 10w-30.
me too.

I use 5-30 Mobil 1 synthetic because my motor is low milage, it doesnt leak or burn and I also read somewhere that it actuallytake less HP to move through an engine than 10/30. Of course were talking a small amout of power. And the main reason I use synthetic... because I'm a lazy piece of **** and hate doing oil changes.

wtf?

5w-30 is recommended by Honda... why would you use any other weight? :shakes head:

if your motor leaks or burns oil, then fix it and use 5w-30. You are messing your motor up more by using anything else.

All companies recommend 5-30 because of better fuel economy

My mom has a b-series motor and we use Amzoil 5w-30. Only have to change your oil every 7500 miles.

at very low temps. the oil pumps at 5w..then as the motor warms viscosity moves up to 30..in temp zones where it rarely freeze s it best to use the 10-30w oil s..many race car s use a straight 30w since they re running at high temp s constantly

i was being sarcastic since some were concerned with horsepower numbers.

here's some interesting reading: http://theoildrop.server101.com/ubb/...=001653#000011

5w for temps below 19degrees F and beyond
10w for temps above 19degrees F

so if you live somewhere where its cold right now...get the 5w...then when its warmer get the 10w
