Default flaming EP3

Is it just my area, or is it all over the country? I mentioned that i liked the EP3, and seems like everyone is flaming the hell out of them. I am a believer in being yourself, so i don't really care what people here sayabout it. I think it is one of the neatest cars that Honda ha ever put out. What do you guys think?

Well I love the cars.. its orginial, they only make the Si HB. The B-Serious just looked like another Civic with a different motor and a si decal and acouple other goodies that people dont see. I guess thats why I bought me one bec I love the work honda put into it to make it different. So yeah I know what u mean.. everyone hates them but once they see them slamed they have different opinions I believe. Maybe this will help alittle hearing my 2 cents.

This is a technical board, or at least it's supposed to be, so many of the reasons the car isn't all that well-recieved here are technical.

I don't like the strut suspension, the cable shifter, the increase in mass, the less sporting feel of the engine and the taller centre of gravity.

On the other hand, at ~$15K it makes a very attractive buy for a daily driver. The engine's flexibility and good fuel economy combined with the practical hatch layout are nice attributes to have in a beater.

As an only car, there's no way I could own an EP3. It's not lively enough for me.

i agree with you guys, i like the new Si. may not be as easy to modify or as fast as other hondas, but it's still a very nice car.
what i really dont get about peoples complaints are that honda finally gave people the civic they wanted.= integra engine, MUCH better seats than other civics, a hatchback with more power accessories.
the odyssey jokes are funny but i think people who take them serious are just mad cuz they don't have a newer car... or they're jacks

They are the same HP and higher torque then the last gen Si --- it is just that people dont like new stuff -- and people love to hate... especially here... (as you can witness in MkUltras comment of "nice to have in a beater"... as if any ep3 could be considered a beater.)

That is one thing i am not too fond of is the cable shifter, but i think i could get used to it. I agree that people do not like new stuff, and i am sure they said the same thing when the eg, and ek civics came out. Alot of people flame it cause it is "slow", but i am not interested in racing it. I will have a EF civic for that purpose. I still have not found any credible reason not to buy the car.

You mean you wouldn't want a fuel effecient, flexible motor and a nice practical hatch in a beater? Why not?

And don't get so defensive. I consider my own car a beater.

What size wheels / tires are those. They fill out the wheel wells rather nicely. Is your Si lowered?

Well i drove it home tonight for the first time. Not too sure about it now, seems to feel "cheaper" then other hondas. I do not think i can get past the cable shifter, seems too high, seats are nice, and seems to handle pretty well. As far as something that i would have to drive everyday i do not think i can do it. There is also a 2001 GSR on the lot for 3k less then this car, with only 15k miles on the clock. I think the gsr is a better car for me, in my opinion.

Whats funny is...I remeber just about everyone on this board Flamming the RSX and EP3's(espically the ITR guys)--Like back when I had mine-they would always say the DC2 R is better and this & that--now everyone says that they love em----Its funny how when mods came out for them that made them alot faster then Most DC2's,..its like that gained the respect I guess---Remember the Title to this forum anyone?"To ALtezza installs and reving on unsuspecting Drivers"?

That was a flame right there,..but now The RSX and EP3's seem to be alot faster then some modded DC2's and ITR's for that matter!
once guy posted in the 350Z boards his video of his RSX-S runnin a 14.1--not bad!!
--my friends ITR w/ TODA B's,toda cam gears,Toda Valvetrain,JDM Header,.5-Zigen exhaust,.etc,etc...he hit 14.2 once!! and he's a hell of a driver--

but sorry to go on about DC5's,..but I love the EP3 and DC5's....but now they seem ok to everyone...anyone else find that funny or notice that?

thats what I've seen--again,..I'm formally MR.K20--Blk RSX-S owner!

... however, if you're going there looking for intelligent signs of life after being at Honda Tech for a while, you are probably going to be disappointed.

I find a lot more stupidity at Ephatch than I find here.

Amen to that! i mean its a good site and good info but some people there are just stupid, i guess youll get that anywhere but i think H-T has the least amount of internet stupidity outa most of the car forums

Honestly, I don't understand why everyone dislikes the car. It's barely slower stock for stock - the only reason is the extra 130lbs of weight and the difference in tires - and both cars come with shitty tires to begin with. The EP3 is a much more pleasant car to drive daily for many reasons - which include the torque increase and the lowering of the power delivery in the rev range, the ability to run 87 octane fuel, the MUCH-improved interior, the convenient hatchback body style. Looks? I like the EM1 as much as anyone, but I think the EP3 looks great too - it's subjective. I actually prefer the higher roofline of the EP3, because I'm sick of bonking my head off of the low door jamb in my G6 Civic.

The only things I don't like about the EP3 is its MacPherson strut front suspension, the lack of a center armrest up front, and the MSRP of $19,000. I honestly don't feel there are any other drawbacks. The fact that it's slower than the EM1 stock doesn't phase me one bit - it's only a hair slower. I've also observed that the K20A engine - even the lowly K20A3 - has / will have much more potential than the B16A. As the old saying goes - there is no replacement for displacement. Period.

And all of this coming from the owner of a 2000 Si.

i find it difficult to swallow that 'so called honda enthusiasts' bash the ep3, "its slower, bigger yada yada" give it time as many have commented the eg civics took along time to catch on. i mean you cant tell me that a 95 si is fast stock!? either way i like em, and am contemplating buying one. bottomline if something comes out and peoples intial reaction is dislike it seems like everyone turns insta-hater. If you are a true car enthusiast you appreciate whatever car and quality work is done to it, regardless of personal style.

as for ephatch.com, i found that the board lacks the technical aspect, overall organization and refinement of honda-tech.

just a little food for thought
