how could you put a hinge on cover to access cam gears?
I had a shop cut away my valve cover so i could adjust my cam gears. I wanted the side cut away with the top left on. They cut off the top and half the side. I'd like to protect the timing belt from contaminants and still have the piece cut away. Does anyone have any ideas for rigging up some kind of hinge or something so it's covered, but will lift up for easy access to the cam gears?
You could make a pin/dowel assembly to drop the cut half onto the noncut half... and maybe a release clip to remove it....
that would be cool, you could pop a clip and lift off the timing belt cover easy as pie.
well I have not cut mine yet.... waiting to figre out the details.
I prefer the cut circles to only allow access to the camgears adjusting bolts.
That looks much better / cleaner than cutting the timing belt cover in half.
Now I want to cut it to a specific diameter to match the bolt circle of the adjusting bolts, then make a disk with spring loaded clips that hold it onto that cut-out-circle. Looks like I actually need a figure 8 shape, not two separate disks, but you get the picture?
Some sort of clip that goes out from the center of this disk like a wheel spoke, and has a spring in it to push a clip to the t.b. cover cut out area.
Well, think this will take me a while or what? heh heh!
Also, I have never seen a removable or hinged cover for this application, fabricated or manufactured....
