How to get off VSS on D-Series Motor?
Ok, so I tried to take off the mechanical VSS on my SI tranny with a screwdriver and snaped a little chunk off of it. This thing is not budging one bit. Anyone got any tips or tricks on pulling off the VSS? I need to swap it to my b16a tranny.
i've had the same problem. i don't know the answer, but when i asked others, theirs seem to have come out really easily. i guess some are more stuck in there than others....

LOL, yeah I tried cursing at it and spraying WD around it, even tapping it with a ball peen to try and get it loose, I used a rib-joint to try and twist it but all that did was scratch it up a bit. The b16a one was so easy to take off. D-series one is being a little bitch and won't come out.
i spend 1 hr yesterday doing the same thing
my mech VSS, its all F up.... i had another one to swap in.... but the lil lip that holds the thing its broken , from before i got it, so i cant pry it.... plus the location while on the car its hard to take off....
i tried from under the car, use vise grips, hit it sideways, pulled it, use a chissel, tried to stwist it, but the **** wont loose.... i guess ill wait until i rebuild the si and swap it back in

Are you guys talking about the plug that goes into it or the actual part that bolts to the tranny? If its the plug then all you have to do is pull up the rubber boot and there should be a little clip in there somewhere. Take some needle nose pliars and get that clip off and it comes right out. Thats how it was on my dx anyway. It took me a while to figure it out though. I didnt put the little clip back in when i installed it onto the b18 and its held up fine. I hope that this helped a little.

Sean,
Yeah, that part comes out easy. That's the speedometer cable that plugs into the VSS (the part we are trying to remove). It's the actual VSS that seems to be stuck in the tranny, not the cable.

If it's stuck, give up now. You have three options, buy a new one, mod the B series unit to work, or sometimes you can get lucky if you take the trans apart and push it out from the inside. But if it's really stuck about the only way to get it out is to crack the trans case around and destroy the trans. No good answers here, I've tried heat, hammering, air chisel with totoal disregard for the vss, vise grips, monkey wrench, assetaline torch, you name it. If it's in there, it's in there.

all I did was clamp vice grips onto it.. THen got under the car and hit the vice grips upward while attempting to twist and it came out after like 5 minutes.. make sure u take the 10mm retainer bolt off the top or its not going anywhere
Well ive got my old dx engine just sitting there doing nothing so tomorrow ill go try to find a way tog et it out. Im sure itll be easier when the engine is out ofthe car. Ill post my results tomorrow night sometime.

I'll get it out if I have to destroy the tranny itself.
Just have to come up with some MacGyver ****, or open up the tranny and try to get it out from the inside.

i did what ghetto said and what came out wasnt the VSS itself but the adapter on it
so what i did was took apart the electronic VSS and used the top part of it.
tapped into the cable VSS, i dont know if its gonna work yet
cause im still having some issues with my cluster swap
but as soon as it works i will let yall know

I tried that and all I do is scrape the damn thing
. I think Im gonna tie a string to it and slam the door. It is one impossible task. One way or another I'll have that sucker out.

i have a Si tranny outside... and all it has to do its come straight out.... has a O-ring... and its in there snug tight....
so its going to be a lil tight to take out.... just need to be pulled..... and specially hard when installed on the car....
