Bunch of Crank Pulley Questions....
so mine flew off... blablabla. no damage done, it's just lost.
So I got myself a civic type r pulley, a new little key.... but the bolt won't be here until tuesday... i need to get to work.
Driving without a Crankshaft Pulley... not a good idea, right? But why? Isn't it only running the alternator? So that would just drain my battery, right? Or what other problems would I run into?
For the bolt, could I possibly just find another bolt/washer of similiar size, and leave it in there? Or no? What size is it?

driving with out a crank pulley is a bad thing, one time I drove about 3 miles and with a crank pulley and my timing belt almost fell off. You could use a diffrent bolt but I would not us it for very long. The stock bolt is made for that so use it.. good luck

What you missed is that the crank pully also hold the timing belt in place. Without it, it might make the belt rub and the plastic cover or slip from the gears.
Also, the crank pulley act as a harmonic balancer to keep unwanted vibration from ruining the crank bearings.
So the answer is no, its not a good idea.
almost true. It's SOLE reason is to dampen engine vibrations...but the pulley tracks are on there to make matters easier- as compared to old school engines where the pulley was bolted onto the dampener.

Hmm... Anyone ever notice that there isn't anything on most Honda OEM pulley's that will balance anything, harmonically or not.
Honda engines are built to such tight tolerances, that most pulley's don't have balancers. The purpose of the pulley, is to run the accessories.
Running off of the battery alone may throw a voltage CEL for the MAP, amongst other censors that require voltage input, which is most of them.
The reason you didn't damage anything when the pulley fell off is because it doesn't do anything but run accessories. The stories you hear of aftermarket pulleys damaging Honda engines with stock internals are because the products were not properly balanced to begin with.
I've got 40k miles on my Civic Type R race base pulley, with no visible signs of increased wear to crank or rod bearings yet. I guess stranger things have happened, but for right now, everything is a-okay.

Will the bolt for a single cam motor work? I have my stock motor collecting dust in storage.
Also, the bolt from an LS motor should work too right? my friend's ls/vtec is just collecting dust, so I'm sure I could arrange to borrow it for a few days.

I don't know what engine you have, but my B18C1 crank pulley bolt takes a 19mm socket, but my friend's D15 bolt takes a 17mm socket.
