Why does the 97' ITR manual and helms manual say to Inspect valve clearance every 30k yet many of the maintenance lists which I have seen you guys write up say every 15K. I was just wondering because I'm close to 45k and Im not sure if I need to adjust valves or not? Do 98,00,01 manuals say every 15???

I kinda got in a debate with the guy at the dealership because he looked in his handy book and it said every 30K. I figured it would be every 15k since my civic Si's valves were adjusted every 15K. But then I looked in my manual and helms and it says every 30.

15k sounds better to me

'00 says 30k. Dealership will tell you the same.

Get it done every 15k.

Thats wierd though that my lower performance Civic Si manual said every 15K and the ITR says 30K.

The manual actually says 30K or when necessary, so I guess that means if you hear clatter adjust em... I do mine every 15K though...

 

I waited until 30K for my 1st valve adjustment, and they were horribly loose, more than twice the accepted spec range. Granted I'm running a little boost which may loosen them up a bit, but still I learned my lesson to adjust them every 15K.
