i think tyson made a post about pulling it out through the driver's side wheel well. i think i tried it that way once but no dice...
i would go through the bottom since you won't have to pull the MC off.

Take it out the botom. First remove the inner drivers side splash shield. Disconnect negative battery lead (No unwanted sparks). Disconnect all the electrical connection (10 mm Nut and latched plug. Unbolt the alternator from the bracket and slid it aside temporaily. Remove the alternator bracket from the block (Two 14 mm Bolts). With the bracket removed work the alternator out the wheel well opening. BTW the car must be jacked up and the suspension allowed to drop to its lowest ponit while still fullyinstalled. It may take some twisting to get it out but you will not have to force it.

very helpful info on the procedure... I've done it on my accord(altenator is in the front
) but never did it on my civic yet.**BTW did you mean i have to remove the
a) mud/splash guard
or
b) driver side> inner wheel hull plastic covering? (the plastic cover that has a hole to manually crank the crank)?

are you guyz for real? That must take you an hour (at-least) to get the alternator out and a new one in. Jack the car up and put it on jack stands? Why go thru all that trouble.
why not just take off the (2) 10mm bolts holding the master cyl. to the brake booster, slide the master cyl. back to move it off the booster rod, and gently pull the Master cyl. out of the way (dont bend the lines too much though, just enough to get some room). Then loosen the alternator and take it out that way. Should Take you 15 min to change it
Just take your time and dont bend the brake lines in a funky angle and you should have no problems. This is the way i have always done it and it works perfect everytime.

at least an hour??? losen the belt from the top and remove the top bracket, climb under the car, take off the bottom bolt, remove the 3 bolts for the mounting bracket then its out. Show me where that will take over an hour 30 mins tops (done it) remove your master cyl and bend the lines and risk breaking them...sounds good to me
Z6
lowered about 2.5"
axle goes to high and wont let me take alt tru the bottom
so i just rather loos the intake manifold and move it to the side a lil... and then take alt from top
better than loosing the MC and have to bleed the brakes and if something goes wrong..... well i dont wanna risdk anything.,

jack up the drivers side, it will relieve the pressure on the spring and it will come out. Had to replace mine and its lowered 2.25 and had no problems. You cann't get the alt out with the wheel on the ground to my knowledge
car was in the air
i had to raise it when i went underneith to try to pull it out..... still not a lot of room... it rest between the axle and the rear cross member..... just by another 1/2 in and ti woul dhave come out....

Removing the alternator is not hard for the stock D16's but what about trying to take out the alt. when you have a b-series? You gotta take out the intermediate shaft to be able to take the alternator out!
