why am I seeing S2k's for so cheap?
Im in the market for a new car, the s2000 would be at the top of my list but until recently I thought they would be out of my budget (opting for a WRX)
I stated browsing around and I am finding 2000/2001 S2000's with say about 30K 40K miles on them for 21,000 and this is at dealerships.
I just got back from checking one out at a local dealership(los gatos ca.) It was a 2000 Dark grey for 22,000 and had 32K on the clock. I got him to do 22,000 OUT THE DOOR. Higher mi s2's dont bother me since I do plan to modifi a bit and change out certain items so the cheaper the better.
Why am I seeing these cars so cheap? up and comming comp? The terrible Economy?
Just kinda stuck me as odd.
dont beileve me? do a search on autotrader, there are a few on there UNDER 20K (high miles tho)
There is even a very nice black one on this board for 24K
Anyway, Maybe I will join the s2000 owners and pick me one up.

yep my bro got his for $24k silver yr: 2000 with 26k on it.... down 4k and pay 400 a month and insurance $90 full coverage a month

I saw some 02 S2k's with low miles for only $27. I'd personally opt for the 02's because they are have the glass window (the plastic window looks like ****), fixed tranny from the previous 00-01 S2k's, and lots of other minor improvements.
The 02's also have a less agressive suspension setup which makes me want nothing to do with them.....
Prices also fluxuate a little bit with the seasons. Demand for a convertible will rise as the temperature does. Winter is the best time to buy, especially from dealerships.
Fuel prices and the S2000's horrid gas mileage might also be a factor in the low prices.
Well maybe Ill look into getting a s2000 then. Man I never even pictured myself in one because of the price...
Quick question, How weak is the trans really (maybe a search?)
Can I pick up a glass window and replace the 00-01 window?
Also I can get me a hardtop for it right? Aftermarket or OEM? thanks guys

Hmm well it sounds good.
I think I actually might just do it then. Im going to maybe run it in WHHC or just AUTO X it.
I have 12K to put down on a s2000 and another 6 or so K when my integra sells so there isnt much stopping me. Now to find my s2000.
I want silver or yellow

Am I the only one who thinks the hardtop doesn't look that great? I think it kinda ruins the way an S2k looks. It makes the S2k look like a go-kart.
I like the hardtop, very much. And, the s2000 IS a go-kart.
Look for a used one on http://www.s2ki.com the people there are all enthusiasts, and you should get the car you want for a good deal.

Less stiff doesn't necessarily mean it handles worst. I forgot all the details, but I believe the changes were *slightly* softer springs, changed the shock valving, and the front sway bar is smaller, but rear is actually thicker (almost switched in size between F and R).
holy ****. did a nationwide search..and some are facking cheap. im going to assume those deals are just too good to be true....
Or go with the Mugen hardtop, available in both carbon fiber and fiberglass.
how much do the mugen hardtop cost...and where can u find them...
Just got back from a test drive...
Found me a SUPER nice yellow one for 24K.
Car was EXTRA clean and man it drove so nice. Even for stock suspension it was not super soft and had little body roll.
Now I have been test driving WRX's too.
I know the WRX will have the advantage on some points, but ooo man the s2k is nice.
What aftermarket all motor mods are out there for the s2k?
Are the motors making good power with mods?

If you are looking to do just gentle modifications then I would suggest the WRX the power is just so easy to get and all are rather inexpensive. THe S2000 is very hard to get real power out of without going FI and even then the same cash spent on a WRX would build a track monster. But then again nothing like putting the top down and listing to the wind and 9K rpm.
On a serious note with 0% financing on the WRX and the extra space + cheaper price would win me over right now. Plus it's going to be cheaper all around and if it's going to be your daily a lot nicer on bad weather days and traffic.
