sticky throttle
when i step on the gas, it kinda sticks for a second, then starts revving. i checked the throttle body and tried loosening/tightening the nut, didnt work. also tried loosening/tightening the throttle cable, which wouldnt work.
any ideas?

Maybe try cleaning the TB up a bit with some carb cleaner (the butterfly can get gunked up and cause sticking). Also, make sure all the linkage is smooth and lubed up. I'd double-check the throttle cable as well; if there's any slack in it, it's not adjusted correctly.
what is the butterfly? could it be that spring?
so the throttle cable shouldnt have any slack? one time when i was adjusting, the revs didnt drop until i stuck my foot under the gas pedal and pushed up. thats too tight, correct? so what exactly does the throttle cable adjustment do, and what does the nut on the throttle body adjust?
thanks

Try some cleaner, just spray it as per the instructions (usually into the intake/throttlebody) It's available at any autoparts store.. Make sure there is no slack in the cable. Check the cable from the throttlebody to where it enters into the cabin; then on the inside too. It may be hung up on carpeting/rubber gaskets/etc. You may need a new cable, they don't last forever
. Replacements are pretty cheap too.
BTW, the nuts allow you to adjust the idle speed. If you tighten the cable too much, then the throttlebody butterfly will stay open, allowing more air into the engine, and making the car idle high. Your idle should be at ~750RPM or so. IF there is too much slack, it may idle low, stall, or it will cause a BOG when you first hit the gas.

on the fuel filter. It's always the last thing that I would check. Yours probably needs changing anyway
, if you're like me and never get around to it. That reminds me....Later, Overkll
My throttle always sticks too until I pull it up wit my toe. I never thought to clean The TB. First thing I did was change the Fuel filter. No luck. I lubed the return spring and adjusted the throttle cable and still no luck. Hopefully the TB is just dirty. I'm runnin out of ideas. Let me know if you figure it out

so get throttle body cleaner and spray on the throttle body? do i spray into intake manifold as well?
by the way, what is the throttle body butterfly?
thanks for all the advice guys

the throttle body butterfly is usually brass, and its right in the opening of the throttle body. its looks like a big brass circle, and it swings open and closed, controllling the air.
does anyone know what the nut on the butterfly adjusts? how tight should it be? should it be tight enough so that the butterfly cant wiggle back and forth? before i adjusted it, the butterfly was pretty loose, i.e. i could wiggle it a little bit.
The butterfly shouldn't be loose. Take a look at it. If it's moving it could catch and scrap against the throttlebody. Does it look like it is scraping anywhere in the throttlebody? Everything should be smooth. Don't tighten it too much (strip it). Did you check the complete cable? (see my post above) I'd try replacing it, they only last so long. I had the same problem in my old Topaz and it ended up being the cable. It's a pain in the *** to get to under the dash, but it's a quick job.

my throttle gets sticky about every 3 or 4 weeks. i clean it everytime it starts happening, but it really shouldn't happen that often.. does anyone else have this experience? I've gotten lazy about cleaning it and i just spray the butterfly (front and back) without taking the tb off. It definitely makes the sticking go away, but not for more than a month. the first few times i cleaned it, i did it thoroughly and took off the tb, removed the butterfly, cleaned the whole circumference, replaced the tb to manifold gasket, even sprayed and wiped out the intake manifold with a rag as best i could without taking it off.. but still the sticking comes back...
