Default 1st gear traction problem.

A friend of mine has bridgestone potenza pp so 3's on his R. He also has i/h/e and ecu. He is wondering why when he rips it in first his tires start to spin when he hits vtec. He has tire pressure is set at 35 in front and 33 in rear. This happens whether its warm or cold outside. Thanks!

uhm.... when you stomp on it in 1st gear in nearly any car the tires are going to spin some. Both my 130hp cars spin the front tires when provoked. Your friend needs to learn how to progressively apply the loud pedal.

get drag radials and set the pressure to 20psi or less depending if you are on the track or street. 1st gear rips in almost any car by the way.

I can break loose in VTEC, but it's my shitty all-season tires I almost don't want to buy a set of Azeni's because spinning at the crossover is so neat

(Makes my car seem a lot faster... lol)

My street car hooked at 500+ whp in 4th. I was running 245/50/16's with 14lbs of pressure though

This is fun and all and an interesting show of horsepower, but it gets tiresome quickly.

Soon you will long for less whp and RWD to actually put power to the ground.

dick

you might have fun with it now, but its gonna get annoying everytime you step on the gas you leave your tires behind. have fun paying for tires every other week

Ryan, who is just jealous

s03's are not sticky enough to handle more than stock hp. he could try bf goodrich drag radials - that should eliminate spin in 1st.. but the more hp you make, more traction problems you run into.. abd for s-03's, try 33F/31R or 31F/33R - helps with traction for heavy foot but might not help around the corners.
