Top speed for gears 1 through 5
I think the owner's manual lists the top speed for each gear. Can somebody check it up and post here. My owner's manual is in my glove box, and my car is parked 10 minutes away, so I don't feel like getting out there to check it up. I need to do a power curve calculation for a Mechanical Engineering class and knowing this info would help me make more accurate calculations. Thanks!
Any Civic is fine. I'm actually doing calculations for a b16a2, but I would imagine that the top speed for each gear is about the same for all Civics. Don't feel like walking for 20 minutes if ya know what I mean.
My b16 goes like this
1st - 42 mph
2nd- around 60 mph
3rd- 98 mph
4th- 123 mph
5th - havent topped out yet
1st - 42 mph

3rd- 98 mph
4th- 123 mph
5th - havent topped out yet

Thanks for the posts guys. I just made some calculations and they are as follows. The hp of a b16a2 peaks at 7600 rpm, so the speeds listed are at 7600 rpm, which is probably near top speed. The gear ratios are from a Civic Si.
Axle ratio: 4.4
Tire diameter: 23.5 in
Speed=2.97*[(Tire diameter*(RPM/1000))/(Axle ratio*Gear ratio)]
Gear (ratio): speed @ 7600 rpm
1st (3.230): 37.3 mph
2nd (2.205): 57.3 mph
3rd (1.458): 82.7 mph
4th (1.107): 108.9 mph
5th (0.848): 142.2 mph
The calculations can be done here for any car. Just input all the required info and get the speed for any rpm, or the rpm for any speed:
