Help w/ min weights..
This is my first adventure into getting a car to Min weight... Is there a certain type of weight I should get, where can I get the weights I need, and how are the mounted in the car?? Any Pics would be great..
Also, when our cars are weighed at the track, is it post race, before race, can I refuel the car before weighing..?? Just need to know so I can weigh w/ the proper fuel load..
TIA

I have seen some guys use barbell weights with a bolt coming up through the floor and a nut/washer on the top of the weights - might want to check with the CCR on balast placement and anchoring.
I believe for ballast in the SCCA, you must secure it in the front passenger footwell secured by two (2) bolts and it is in 25# increments. From my memory in the language of the H-C rules, they will pick cars randomly and weight them post race so you'll probably want to make sure you meet minimum weight on your finishing fuel load (and I do not believe they'll let you refuel prior to weigh-in - we usually run directly from the track through impound for the top 4 finishing positions per class to be weighed).

Corey,
It is my understanding that 1 car from each class (selected at random) will be weighed after the race as is. I would like clarification also though. For weights go here: http://www.maycoindustries.com/indus...ead_bricks.htm

phat-S is correct. 25lb increments, mounted in front of passenger seat, two bolts minimum. Post race weigh in as car comes off track (no refuel, no trip to paddock). So you gotta calculate how much fuel you'll use and plan accordingly. If you lose bodywork, you're (potentially) fuqed.
And remember, the weight is with you in the car, in full race gear. So if you're worried about making weight, just go ahead and have that second burger.

Can you leave your spare tire in? Any big heavy aftermarket rear diffuser you can run? Put trunk carpet and trunk insulation back in? Bigger fuel cell?
I would think that you want to keep any and all ballast weight OFF of the front tires, mainly for front tire longevity. So that means behind the rear wheels. And as low as possible. But, I may be wrong. This may be a time to look at the rules creatively with rear weight in mind.
Thoughts? I am painfully ignorant on this subject.

Wondering same thing as well... About spare tire
From the national HC rules:
"6.1 VEHICLE MINIMUM WEIGHTS
Up to 150lbs of ballast may be added to the vehicle. Such ballast must meet NASA CCR and can only be installed in the passenger footwell area between the firewall and the rear most factory seat mounting holes for the front seat."
Sinse we will be using these rules next year, won't it make sense to start following them now.. It basically gives us a much better mounting point then just "in front of the front seat".. It allowes us to add weight where the seat was.
Corey - who doesn't want to cornerweigh more than he has too..

The NASA CCR's "Technical Requirements" state in section 11.4.13 that:
Because of the layout of the CCR I can't really tell if this applies to just HPDE cars are competition cars as well.
The SCCA ITCS 17.1.4.D.10.i states that
and I know of a few ITC Civic drivers who do keep theirs in to make weight.
If you all just prescribed to my pizza, chinese, and steak winter diet you wouldn't be asking these questions.

All loose objects in car and trunk should be removed. Floor mats, dash mats, spare tire, jack, tools, etc.must be removed

In the SCCA, spare tires, etc can be retained if they are securely attached. I know several cars that run with spares in place. No, you cannot fill the spare with concrete.
The NASA reg apparently do not give htis option.
Also, the SCCA and NASA rules for placement seem to differ. SCCA requires it to be in the front passenger footwell. NASA allows it to be placed as far back as the rear-most factory seat mounting holes for the front seat.

In that case, my spare tire is going back in, until someone tells me I can't.. And my added weight is going into the the passenger seat area..
