Anyone have a header/testpipe and keep their stock exhaust and muffler?
The police in my area are ***** when it comes to mufflers. I love my stock muffler since it attracts little attention. I want to buy a DC 4-1 header and testpipe but I'm wondering if the stock muffler will prevent me from seeing nice gains?
I was also thinking about getting some JUN stage 3s in the future and building my top end. I still would want to keep my muffler though. Anyone runnign a setup like this?

I looked at the htread but could not get any useful info out of it. The Dyno charts are too small to read. Can you sumarize what gains you had?
I am running the DC JDM 4-1 header with a Type-R B-pipe (bottleneck removed) and Type-R muffler. The AEM intake is louder than the exhaust, and the engine put down 199 whp. It is a decent compromise for a street driven car.
Lower your screen resolution, it will make the graphs bigger, the blue line is the stock w/ CAI
the red line is JDM Header with Carsound Cat
the Green is the JDM Header with Test Pipe
I gained from 5100 rpm to about 6500 rpm
about 15hp from the stock with CAI
and
about 10hp from the JDM Header with Carsound Cat with the test pipe.
In Torque
I gaine around 10 ft-lbs peak at around 5800 rpm then it evens out with the old graphs.
Overall I gained when VTEC kicks in (midrange), but looks like a lost few ponies from 3000 to 4500 rpm, but that was once I put on the Header and also with the test pipe.
Not sure if that makes sense, not sure if I am explaining it right, but I hope it helps.

.....here's my solution to keeping the stock catback (nice and quiet):

But that bad boy sure is loud when you open her up (at the track of course)...

actually I plan on doing the header straight back to the stock muffler one day....
time & money.
But I'm sure there are some good gains from the setup.

i was also wondering about this, im going to put a jdm 4-1 and a test pipe on my car and i was wondering if the test pipe will allow me to bolt an after-market 2.5" exhaust at a later date
Danny thats what I got,, dc header, AEM, 2.5 exhaust and a Type R axle back muffler.. Actually I have a 2.5 full exhaust but i think am gonna leave the axle back section to keep the noise down.
