i dont think you can mill the head enough to get that compression out of it without screwing up the timing quite a bit. if you wanna go the budget route go with a set of 89 integra d16a1 pistons, they would give you quite a compression bump.....and new they are supposedly really cheap from acura.

at least give the cylinder walls a hone. i would also use new rings on the 88-89 d16a1 pistons.

im probaly going to get the exospeed head package stage 1 with better valvesprings and add the bisimoto header

so i want the cr as high as possible...safely...without touching the block

this is my goal.

I ran a 40thou(it think thats .040?) shave with no probs...just have to use a adj gear to get the timing back.Thats was with a z6 gasket.

so how much was just the head?

The head is shaved 40 not including the gasket...I'm sure you can use the y8 gasket too but I never tried it.

for the z6 gasket I ground all the coolant holes to match up to the head as some of the holes were just little round holes as with the a6 gasket they were oval-type holes matching the head. This shouldn't matter but since I was driving on the track I just wanted to make sure...I'm paranoid

i just got the y8 gasket and its got the same problem. its actually 3 peices, the outer 2 have the oval holes and the middle has just a small round hole. i think ill match them too...just in case.

for 11:1 youd have to mill the head and deck the block a total of 0.0715" and run a y8 head gasket.

for 10.5:1 the mill and deck would have to equal 0.053" with a y8 head gasket.

the 0.040' mill with y8 HG would yeild a 10.18:1.

about .25:1 lower than with the y8 gasket. its .25 give or take...its not a linear relationship so it depends on how high the CR is to tell the difference.

You don't HAVE TO grind the holes I but its nice to do. I ran a untouched gasket and didn't have any problems too. So either way is good. I used a dremel with a stone bit...I pulled out 3 of the rivits holding the gasket together afterwords so I could clean the layers in between as you will get grinding junk in there.

From what I've seen the a6 metal gasket had a super thick middle layer so I wouldn't use that...just use the y8 or z6.

remember a good timing light will definately be your friend after you put it all back together...if you don't have one...buy one or don't shave it.

the holes are for the coolant it will flow better ground but if you don't grind them they will still flow. I tried both ways so I'll tell you you don't need to do it. If you are going to the track and doing mutiple laps then I say go ahead and do it if not then don't worry. Its up to you...just letting you know K.

Also don't do it if you aren't good with a grinder as if the bit gets away from you and walks all over the gasket...well thats not a good thing.

If you're getting a new head from Exospeed, why bother shaving this one?

If you want 11-1, you'll need to change the pistons.
