Anyone live in SE Pennsylvania, NJ, DE, MD area who can swap out retainers for me?
I need to change out my Skunk2 Titanium valve spring retainers. I am looking for someone who has done this with the head on the car and would be interested in doing it for a little $$$. Let me know.
hey i'm from PA and i've taken out valvespring retainers, but putting them back in can be a pain in the a$$ unless you have the correct valvespring compression tool. i have one but it doesn't work well with the Honda DOHC VTEC heads so i take the retainers/springs out another way and pay a few $ to have them reinstalled professionally. it only cost $20-25 at the local machine shop if i remember correctly.
i recommend taking them out yourself (which is free) and then paying the few $ to have the other ones installed. unless of course someone locally will take them out/install them for less than what a machinist would charge just to install them. then that may be the better route to go $$ wise.

Are you the dude who owns that snowboard shop in King of Prussia. Like the early dude said it is a pain in the butt with the head if you don't have the correct valve spring tool to remove them.
what is wrong with the retainers that are on the car or are you putting the skunk2 on

i've heard of this before, but i've never used the Ti retainers so i don't really know if it's true. i stuck with the OEM ones for my head.

is this cause they were out quicker than the OEM retainers?

I have never really seen a retainer wear out, unless something else is wrong with the valve train
I have done this before, I have the knowledge, the tools, and a can-do attitude
Are you looking for the whole job done from start to finish (removing cams, etc) or are you just looking for someone to do the springs? Where are you located? And what tools do you have?

I live just west of Philadelphia, PA. I don't have a Valvespring compressor or valve adjustment tool, just basic tools, sockets, and torque wrench.

Edit: spelling

I wish I had the damn tool to take the springs out without taking the head off. I think its something like $75 for it.
do you have an air compressor? You need one to hold the valves in. I have the valve spring compressor and evreything else (including air comp., but its heavy) needed to do the job. h, I dont have the valve adj. tool for the vtec head. I do have the feeler gauges though. Unless you are changing the cams you might not need and adjustment unless the valves are out of whack anyway. If they arent, its better to go into the job and check the clearances first because you knver know, they could be within spec and you wont need to do anything.
