I doubt either is causing the problem. Honda's auto trannys just plain suck

Better get it to a shop before it completely ***** the bed.

ignore that guy, If your tranny is slipping in and out of gear do the following

1. check fluid and add as needed
2. change fluid
3. check for leaks and repair
4. check electrical connections

My car has 103K on it and the auto tranny is just fine. The grade logic was introduced on that year and the 94-5 models are not as refined as the later models and the tranny sometimes acts funny. For example my car will suddenly jump down into first and then go back into second. that problem was solved when I cleaned and reinstalled the connectors on the tranny and engine as they were pretty slimed up

Interesting info. My 94 Accord EX did the same thing. Had the transmission fluid replaced about a month ago and it didn't seem to help. However, after just having the engine replaced (kept the trans), it seems to be much better. Can you be more specific about the "connectors on the tranny and engine"? Perhaps the mechanic that did the engine replacement also did these things you mention as part of the job?

There are several electical connections on the engine and transmission so I took each one off cleaned it and reinstalled it. Afterwards the problem dissapeared. I drive with a pretty light foot but sometimes the tranny will suddenly jump down into first. That used to happen when I would slow down but not come to a complete stop and then accellerate again.

i had the same problem also,
when i went reverse i hear a knocking sound..
and at 1st t osecond gear it seems like its dragging...
at first i thought it was just my mounts
were slipping, then when i opened up the tranny
my gears were all chewed up pieces falling off everywhere
got no clue how the hell that happened... had a used 30k tranny
replaced for 900 so wasnt that bad...and all problems tend to go away
"for now" so maybe you might need to get the inside checked out.

My '94 automatic had 190K of me driving the ever-living **** outta it before it gave up the ghost and went to tranny heaven. Honda makes very reliable transmissions.
