Having problems starting up the car.

Having problems starting up the car.
When I put the key in the start position, the car starts. But right as I let go of the key, the car dies. The car is in neutral. Can anybody help?

The guy who towed my car home(claims to be a mechanic) said something about the balance(balis?) resistor or something. Could it be that?

My first thought is the ignition switch. If you've got lots of keys hanging from the switch, eventually it gets flaky.
edit...
Don't know if you can fix it. Take it out & look. If you're creative with jewelers' screwdrivers & JBWeld maybe you can. There's more than one way for it to break.

Anyone know how I can fix the igintion switch? Or do I have to get it replaced? Any other suggestion?
