Default Bringing back 11 year old rims, first step - the lip.................

Opi's had his CPR's for a while now, they were in okay condition when he first got them, but we've been thinking of ways to "update" them, give them a face lift more or less, so they look better. First step is the lip, it's supposed to be polished, but looked pretty much silver, even after all of the over the counter polishes. Decided to take off the outer layer of clear coat, which had a lot of blemishes and scratches on it.

Here's the rim fresh off the car....

Opi and our friend Rem working on the clear coat.....

After the old layer was removed, the lip was wet sanded....

And after a few coats of Mothers "Mag" polish, and a coat wax for protection, the finished product......

Next step will be to sand and refinish the face of the rim. Opi's not sure what color yet, but once he decides, we'll get it going.

The act is almost literal of the word, add water to regular sanding as well as changing other variables such as the sandpaper. A fine grit sandpaper is necessary, the more fine the better 1000-2000 or anything higher in grit can be used. The hardest part of any sanding is making sure everything remains equally level and smooth. Some switch between a grit around 800 to start the wetsand out and progress to higher as necessary.

Gunmetal + polished lip
Opi seems to be leaning towards gun metal, so that's what it looks like at this point

just sandpaper, but a little touch of paint stripper (graffiti remover) works as well, just can't let it sit too long, or it'll ruin the finish.
