i posted a message earlier asking abt my keyless entry system for my 97 civic... i had a sony cd deck installed and the k/e sys was still working fine. now, 3 months later, it's not responding anymore. i went back to my dealer and he saw my deck and said, "that's bc you have an aftermarket deck." i told him i had that deck for several months and was working fine til just now. another mechanic walked over and said to him, "he has a civic, it doesn't matter even if he have an aftermarket deck in it." they started talking back and forth abt it disagreeing with each other. i told him/them that the stock radio is hidden under the dash and the aftermarket deck has a harness and is wired around the stock one so the k/e sys works.

he told me it'll cost $45 just for an inspection and if it's the power door lock actuator that needs to be replaced, then it'll be between $200-250. he said he tried to reprogram the remote, but it's still not working. he said it shouldn't be the actuator since the power door lock (inside the car) works. following, he said, "in fact, we wouldn't even work on it because it has to be the aftermarket deck." i questioned him why it worked for 3 months and then not work now cause the deck was in for 3 months. he said, "well, it might be that it's no longer picking up the signal. we can inspect the problem, but it'll cost you $45. and you MUST remove the aftermarket deck and install the stock one back before we would inspect it."

i was like, "forget it, it'll get an alarm system outside." it's cheaper to get a brand-name alarm system with more options/features than to repair this k/e sys.

anyway, i want to know if what he said made sense abt it not able to receive the signal anymore cause it sounds so fake to me. also, what would be a good alarm sys to get for my car? anyone knows what alarm sys best buy carries? since i bought and installed my cd deck there, i thought i'll go there for the alarm cause they did a pretty good job and didn't take that long. besides, i kinda trust the bigger stores rather than the individual small stores. thanks!

 

we've done 100's of the 96-98 civic's.. never had a problem like this. The only thing I can think of is the stock radio's power connection was lost (or the green plug came out of it). Either way, to do an aftermarket system would be really easy in that car, a good chunk of the wires you need are right in the green plug(s) behind the radio area. Also, you'll be able to get your factory radio out of the dash and sell teh puppy.

 

so should i ask bestbuy to take a look and fix the wires or just get an aftermarket alarm sys? what would be a good alarm sys with k/e? i know some alarm doesn't come with k/e. that would useless cause i hate locking the doors with my key.

also, i was looking at the security paging sys. does the pager work with all alarm or only certain ones? would it work with the stock k/e sys, if i choose to fix the wires/whatever instead of replacing it with an alarm sys?

 

Why bother fixing it....replace the oem system with an alarm with keyless.
