Default Few questions on engine aftermarket parts

I just want to claer some stuff up for myself.

Ok so there are feul injectors, spark splugs, distributors, ecus, cams, cam gears some other stuff plus the bolt ons. Which of these are a must for person wanting to mod his car but be able to drive on a day to day basis. How do some of these improve performance. What brand to you recomend and about how much would some of these things cost.

ty for your coments in advance

well first you want intake heaeder and exhasut, and out of the parts that you listed, you would prolly get the most gains from ECU, cams, and cam gears. and you would have to dyno it.

those plugs are just to curculate air through out the motor. you can get a breather for the valve cover and be just fine. the breather is a little mini filter that just attaches to it, you can get it at any auto stop like pep boys or kragen. im pretty sure the other tube goes into your intake manifold somewhere. i think if you get an aem intake that there is a whole open for that one connection, dont take my word for it...
im one of those believers that just an intake wont make you fast... yes there is a 1-2 horse power gain, but you arnt going to see the 10 horse power gain unless you start boring out your intake manifold....
same with an exgaust... you cant just get a bolt on... you need to match up to header to the piping, which allowes maximum air flow. need any more explinations, ill do my best to provide them.

correct me if im wrong anyone...

feul injectors, spark splugs, distributors, ecus, cams, cam gears some other stuff plus the bolt ons.
injectors - you will not need to upgrade unless youare going FI or a MAJOR engine overhaul.

plugs - generally stock plugs are fine. there are people that will tell you that it is a good idea. i wouldnt upgrade my plugs until the old ones were ready to be changed. then i would stay away from capacitated (hotwires etc) because the engine heat will deplete the dialectric (what makes them special) faster than normal plugs. may have to change them every two years vice three or four years.

ecu it all depends on the power that you are looking to get. an ecu can raise your redline, adjust your fuel curve and a multitude of other things.

cams may drop overall HP but will increase your power through out the power band. can effect your idle, making it rougher. depending on the application you choose.

cam gears a great additive to a car. make precise tunung much better. gain HP and throttle response i believe.

every part that you choose will vary in price depending on where you buy, what you buy and remember. you get what you pay for. HP is expensive. that does not mean that the most expensive parts are the best. far from it. do your homework before you buy. make educated decisions and if you have questions do a SEARCH then if your questions arent answered. ask.

hope this helped.

Doug
