T-belt noise...
I put in a new T-belt, w-pump, and everything else. We pryed up on the new idler alot so the belt is tight. Now at idle the belt is purring. It is hard to explain, but as soon as I give it a little throttle it's gone---is the belt too tight? It also whines when I drive past 3k but I heard that is normal for new belts.
I know that when a belt sounds like a supercharger...it's too tight. I don't know if that's normal for new belts though. To tighten it, loosen up the tensioner, rotate the cam gear about 3 degrees, then tighten the tensioner.
Too tight. You definatly shouldnt have pried on the tensioner to make it tighter, an overtightened belt is a recipe for ruining your new water pump. You dont want it any tighter than the tensioner spring will make it. Loosen the tensioner bolt, then rotate the crank pully counterclockwise to take out the slack. Tighten the bolt, and your finished. If your paranoid about the belt wearing in, just loosen and retighten the tensioner in a few weeks.
