Default Checked compression: results okay, can valve seals still be bad??

My 91 crx SI is burning oil.( so i believe) it seems to smoke every once in a while, usually when sitting at idle for awhile. Never seen it smoke during accel. or decel...
I did a compression test.. 175,150,155,155, that's pretty good, i kept testing them and they werent consistent they kept chaninging. Then i got like 140,145,135,140, something like that. I dont know what's the deal with that, maybe engine temp was going down or something? But considering during both test all the # were close to other cylinders....so...

Can the valve seals still be damaged and get good compression, does this test rule anything out. I know that the crank seal is bad ( that's what the guy who did my timing belt said) But my car never leaks oil on the ground. so i figured it a slow one just soaking the motor up...hmmm

What do you guys think please help... i'm guessing many people are gonna say leakdown, i'm not really sure how to do this though

You cannot check vavle seals with a compression test.. only possible thing (for oil consumption problem of course) with a compression test would be the piston rings. If the crank seal was leaking it wouldnt be burning oil either..
Usually the sympton of bad valve seals would be, smoke when starting in the morning, or after the car has sit for a while, sometime under accel/decel also.

forgot to ask.. but what color smoke? oil = blue smoke

I didnt think the bad seal would cause it to burn oil rather slowly leak oil...
I'm begining to think it is the valve seals because it always smokes in the morning or when it sits for a while or sitting at idle for a while then take off. The smoke color is white. Maybe a blueish tint though... It has to be oil though the coolant is never low. So with a leakdown test, could i make sure it's the valve seals? thanks

It is most likely your valve seals, If it were your rings you would be dumping out blueish smoke at wide open throtle like me
