im debating on doing this while my tranny is out. How much does labor usually cost if the installer has the parts in front of him.

I've never used the phantom grip, but people say its for ****....if you are using it mainly for drag racing then I think it would be fine since you arent trying to run 15 psi or something like that. If you are into autox, dont get the phantom grip because I have read that the phantom grip does absolutly nothing in turns.

It just locks the spider gears together, and it doesn't look very sturdy. There are countless stories of them breaking and causing tranny damage. There's probably a reason why people call them "Phantom Slip."

Sport Compact Car seems to be rather fond of the Phantom Grip. They have them in two of their project cars.

Thats what sparked my interest in them. I've heard the horror stories from people, but I don't think any of them were from actual usage (from a friend of a friend of a friend). I wouls also like to hear from people who have actually used them. Are they any good, have they had any problems, etc...How would they be for drag race use.Ive heard that they don't warantee them like quaife (sp) where the warantee sticks even in "extreem" conditions like drag racing...

i was just reading up on these. It appears that they have springs inside that are forced on the spider gears to make both wheels lock. Well anyway, there are different spring rates. Red, Gold, and Green. Red is supposed to be street, Gold is street/race, and green is race. I heard that all the slipping occur using the red spring. I've only heard good about the gold and green. I actually heard green is the ****. The problem is finding the ones that come with the gold or green. Like i said the red one is the one that sucks and that is the one that comes on most of the applications. I dont know why they didnt just start off with gold. I bet all the phantom grips that you see now for 250 are with the red spring. On phantom grips website they sell the ones for the hondas and they are all gold but they are 299. If i had the choice i would get green. I am actually thinking about buying one.
this is just my 2 pennies

Except the problem isn't with slippage, the purported problem is with broken spider gears and destroyed differentials.

i got it! It awsome. It grip in the rain and in the snow. if one tire breaks loose the other one just grabs the road and rips butt. it even breaks better now in my opinion.

I know this not by what other people said, but by 1yr of expierience and no probs goin to happen cause its stout unlike those clutch peices of poop that wear out!

Buy it bro. its great!!

Those guys that have problems must have stuck their weiner in it before installalation.
