Because it reduces flex of the chassis. It's functional but also carries a bling factor. Not the other way round.

It looks like it may be.

When I saw sack's bar at Gingerman last October, I don't think his was bolted to the firewall....

any reason for that? i dont suppose its because the bar is an issue, because my carbing cleared it by far.

I have a aftermarket GM 3 Bar Map Sensor. It was mounted on the firewall, but the bar goes into that place now. I need the 3 Bar MAP for my Haltech e6k standalone.

If a chain is a strong as a weakest link how strong are two 6mm (10 mm head) bolts attached to a firewall?
I really like the concept, however, despite the large contact surface with the firewall, I wonder if a better mounting design could have been established on the firewall?
Do you have a close up photo of the firewall interface?

hrmm.. i'm not sure about this one.. but lemme have a chime at it..most of the chassis flex will come from a side to side motion.. in other words the shock towers will try and flex towards each other... if that's the case, then at each shock point, you're bracing it 1) to the other tower, and 2nd to the firewall..it's because of the large contact surface that basically keeps the shock tower from flexing .. my guess is that if the angle towards the firewall were too small and the contact surface was also too small, then basically any sideways motion (a lot of it) would try and sheer off the bolt, so yes that would be the weakest link.. however it looks to be a good enough surface area with a large enough angle that this would not happen, plus the fact that the shock towers probably don't move that much to begin with...now i would assume that if the firewall mount were in the centre and the angle towards the firewall were 45degrees (with a large enough contac surface to the firewall), that would be the 'ideal' position.. but that's not going to happen given all the crap mounted there.... excuse my ranting.. tired from trying to do an FD install in a typeR (stage 1 complete)..
