Buy a new (used) sedan. Get an 92 EX and you'll have vtec, ABS, and 4 wheel disc. FYI: Shift lights don't add vtec to a non-vtec motor....

If you're talking about activating your VTEC on a d16z6 with a shift light, it is possible. Back in 95 when I had a B16 swapped into my CRX, I used a RAZO shift light to intiate the crossover (didn't know how to wire up a B16 ECU back then). Just save up for a factory VTEC ecu.

Ahhh, I had no idea what you were talking about before. If it's possible to wire through a shift light, Check out Summit racing. They have a shift light that you set by turning the dial in the back rather than using pills. I think it was under $50 and you'd be able to "dial-in" your vtec engagement point.

Yep. $49.95

Well if you'd use the correct terminology rather than add two block codes together you'd cut down on the confusion.

You mean the D15B VTEC motor rated at 130hp, right? you cannot call it a D15Z6 and expect nobody to chime in asking what the hell you're talking about...

Yeah, this light would be a good idea, because it has a dial, so you can adjust it quickly/easily. My old RAZO light had a dial so I could change the crossover, which was important back then, cause I was doing a lot of experimenting with different RPM points, trying to figure out what worked best for my set up, and not too many people in SD had good info on B16's back then.

There is a guy running around Boise that has been nick named "SWITCH" for reasons I'm sure you can figure out.

Cheap: yes
Effective: yes
Probably the worst way to solve the problem: hell yes

Cheap and easy way to get VTEC to work?

How about getting the correct P28 ECU and plug it in?

All 1992 Civics are already pre-wired for VTEC, so just plug it in and be done.

You'll go through more trouble tying to ghetto-rig the VTEC to some stupid toggle switch.

A toggle switch won't add the necessary fuel and change up the timing like the CORRECT ECU will - do it right the first time, or don't do it at all.

The 1992-1995 Si hatch, 1993-1995 EX coupe, and 1993-1995 Del Sol Si all have the P28 ECU that you're looking for - get the manula version, and they should only cost around $75.00-$100.00.

thanks, sorry for the confusion, but yes, its the d15 with 130hp, and the stock distributor. i should be going to get a p28 this weekend. actually a friend of mine might have one... as long as a 92 si hatch fits, im good.

Ain't that the truth. We wired up my friends vtec on his 88 HF/B16 with a MSD RPM switch. We did no know where to wire the extra wires for vtec activation. We did not really have access to the internet either back then. No info anywhere and shops wanted way too much and were not willing to help unless they got $$$$$$ .

why not invest in one of my chipped ecus - includes 3 programs and ecu as well as shipping all for $165 - this way you get fuel/ignition maps as well as vtec/rev limits which correspond closer to what you have.

JDM D15B dynos and chips (check the sig)

You guys do understand though that simply engauging the VTEC electronically isn't good for the motor, nor will it put out the same horsepower, right?

I'm pretty sure that toggle switching VTEC would mean lean conditions on the top end, or way too rich foir being in "limp home" mode which dumps shitloads more fuel in for safe running.

Oh yeah me and my friend knew that way sucked. But this was back in 1996/1997 when we did not have info on to wire up the extra wires. He end up using a chipped LS ecu with a higher rev limiter and the switch for vtec. As soon as we got our hands on the internet we did it the right way with a PR3 and it was a big difference. The car felt light on its feet. It would be a shame for anyone to go that route nowadays with all this info on the net.

Its' funny, back in late 95, we got our hands on a B16 ECU and eventually figured out how to wire it up (trial & error), the car was so much smoother, pulled harder and was much more consistent. Ahhhh the Ghetto days

Exactly It's pretty amazing to see how far Honda's hybrid set ups have come in the last 5-10 years.
