couple questions
First off I love yalls site. I just stumbled on to it today wish I could have found it a long time ago. Well anyways im brand new to the track scene and im hooked, i never liked the whole drag race scene, cause how hard is it to go in a straight line. There are so many other crucial aspects of a car than power, power, power. Sorry im going on and on.
Anyways heres my scenario, Ihave a 99 ek i already have a b16a, ctr cams, ctr intake manifold, header, underdrive,no ac, no power stearing. I dont have much on the suspension side right now cause i havent had time till now. Iwas wondering though if one of you( or alot of you, the more opinions the better) could maybe list somethings i will need to get started.(ie handling, drivetrain, safety)
I need to rip my trans apart anyway to replace 3rd gear synchro, so gearing setups would be greatly apreciated, cause i might as well do that while its apart(the tranny is a gsr, this is also gonna be street driven as well)and keep in mind that im not goin out to beat evreybody right now i just want to get some experience on the track. driving tips would be great to. I know Im asking alot of stuff here but i am very, very, very serious about this.thanx

Hello, you came to a good place...I think...
Anyways, if you want to enter the "track scene", the Houston SCCA Region holds autocross (AKA SOLOII in the SCCA) events on the first sunday of each month - www.houscca.com. With the list of work you have done and being that you don't really care about the competition season at this point, autocrossing in the "X" class would be a good place for you to start out and learn about vehicle handling and control. I wouldn't do anymore work on the car to get it ready for the track. If anything the only performance items you should worry about right now are the brake pads and tires. You really just need to make sure the car is in good condition: no fluid leaks, battery secure, brake system in good shape, wheels torqued properly, and that the interior of the car is cleaned out (all loose items and mats removed). If you are going to work on the transmission, then there really isn't much I can suggest in terms of gear ratios - but a stock GSR transmission has good gear ratios already.
Since you say to "keep in mind that im not goin out to beat evreybody right now i just want to get some experience on the track", then don't worry about the car right now (except making sure its in good condition) but concentrate on gaining some experience. The next regional Houston SCCA autocross event will actually be May 4th, since the National Tour will be taking its normal place in April (5th and 6th). I'll be down at Gulf Greyhound Park on April 6th to watch/photograph the National Tour event. Maybe I'll see you there?

Thank you for your help. I dont know why I diddnt see that FAQ in the first place, I guess im a little anxious, cause i find this very interesting. After talking to some people and doing tons of research yesterday I did come to the conclusion as well, that autox would be the best place for me to gain experience, and get a feel for the road(and my car). I might go to gulf greyhound park and maybe i will see you, but thank you again for helpin me(those were some nice pitures by the way)

Assuming your interior is in place, your car sounds like it falls into Street Modified for autocrossing. It's a tough class - lots of high horsepower, big dollar cars. But it's also a common place to start since so many people have highly modified street cars.
For now, I would just make sure everything is working correctly. Good brake pads and fluid, ball joints, tie rods, etc. Forget about modifying stuff for now and just come out and have fun. You'll learn a lot everytime you come out.
If the tranny is going to be out for repairs, you might consider a light flywheel and a decent clutch. Possibly also a LSD if you don't have one already. I'd leave the gearing stock for now since it's a steet car.
