KEYED :( How to determine repaint or buff?
Background:
Purchased EG several months ago. Saw that there was a scratch along the fuel lid, but didn't think much of it.
First nice day, I washed the car and saw that the lines go nearly all the way around the car.
How do I determine if this is a repaint job or a buff out. I don't know if this happened after I bought the vehicle, or prior to it, but regardless, it needs to be fixed.
Thanks

Sounds like you may be able to buff it out. Buy some compound and try it, that's the best way to find out. Once you've buffed it out put a nice coat of wax on it.
thanks.. i'll try to post pictures of it later...
i talked to a friend..(police)...he told me to check the paint later to see if there is "curling" around where it was keyed. I guess that can help determine "freshness" of the incident. Too bad it usually gets washed away when you wash the car.

usually, if you cant feel it with your fingernail, then it can be buffed easily. I would recommend stopping my a reputable Body Shop in your area, and ask them what they can do. If they are a good shop, you can probably trust their advise.
actually, i can feel it.. it's grey in some spots... i'm at work right now so i'll have to check it out more thoroughly tonight.
thanks for the advice

is that the bad infomercial with the same moron that does the orange clean ads?
anyway, would perimeter sensor security have prevented this? i don't even know if this happened prior to me purchasing this vehicle, or after i had purchased it.
i noticed a scratch on the gas lid, but it's off a little bit so i don't know if they are connected. *sigh*

two words: RATE INCREASE.
i don't want my insurance to go up because of a comp claim and have it sit on my record for 3+ years. also, depending on the adjuster, sometimes they won't allow a repaint.

I've been there, done that. No increase what so ever. If they keyed it all the way around, you're entitled for a new paint job.
Two words:
Full coverage
That all depends on your deductable.

just spoke to adjuster. he's coming out tomorrow and letting me know what my options are. they won't let me know if/if any, my rate will go up or not.
call the insurance company and tell them you got vandalized....pay the deductible and have it painted...of course...that's if you have $$$ to pay the deductible though...
got the money for the deductable ($250). i'm just hoping they don't tell me to go somewhere and get it buffed out and be screwed.
give paint pro s a call or check them out on http://www.dentpros.com theyre the same company
why isn't there a service center in ohio?
turns out that every panel had been keyed except the front left . *sigh*. A friend casually glanced at it yesterday and thought it looks like there is touch-up-paint on the car. If it turns out this happened BEFORE i bought the car, I'm going to through the roof.

Update:
Had car looked at. Police officer says that the car has touch up around the areas that were keyed. Under proper lighting, it's much more visible. Tried buffing it out, didn't work...*sigh*.
Was keyed, and looks a like a poor attempt at touch-up-paint. Insurance won't cover since it was vandalism prior to me claiming ownership of the car.
SCREWED.
Anyone want to throw out ball-park figures on how much it costs to repaint. I just bought the f-ing car from an h-t member too. I should have been more careful. *sigh*

just had the rear bumper cover repaint d with a 2 phase job..and it cost nearly $600..so im imagining it ll cost u alot more..but if u want to prep the car..then take it to Macco or Miracle..ull save alot more and get a better paint job
hmm... maybe that's an option.... i'm guessing i 'could' do the prep work. i'll have to wait until summer when i have another car to drive while i do the work.
any idea what sort of prep work/time wise it takes to get it set ? i thought about even repainting it another color, but i think i'd keep the original red, or maybe go a slight shade different (roma red, or new formula red).
