I've got the basic t3/t4oe that comes w/ some of the pre-fabbed kits. I had the turbo on the car for one day, a little over 2 months ago. i am just now getting the car running again, and i noticed there is shaft play on the turbo! there wasnt any before, and there are fewer than 100 miles on the turbo. there is no play back and forth (<----> ), only up and down.

the only difference is that the houseings were rotated b/c of a different mounting position. Can that cause this? It's pretty noticable too. Is there any way to fix it w/o spending ~300 for a rebuild?

How much can you move it around? As long as it's not scratching the housing a little shaft play is ok.

 

it should be fine. Most used turbos that I hear of have some sort of minimal shaft play. When oil is pressurized into the center housing..this stabalizes the turbine form moving. If the blades are hitting the walls....that's a problem, but otherwise I hear its very normal. If you've pushed your turbo beyond normal driving and dragging I hear it happens....ANY OTHER ADVICES FELLAS?

i can move it around quite a bit. i've noticed a few scratches in that area that look to be caused from it.

can rotating the housings cause it though?

 

dont play with the shaft too much, you'll go blind

 

any other help?
