Default Intake dual runner bypass control question

Whassup guys!!

I'm new to this forum, basically trying to get more TECHNICAL feedback and not the usual yadda-yadda and kill stories kids post on other HONDA sites.

I love to work on my car but from time to time need a bit assistance or helpful comments on projects.

I own a '92 JDM (righthand drive) F22B DOHC non-VTEC (160Hp) powered Prelude. This is very similar to the H23, exept it's a 2.2 liter engine with higher compression (same Hp rating, cylinder head etc.).

Recently I noticed that the dual runner control diaphragm respond to engine rpms anymore (should stay closed to about 4500-5000 rpm and thereafter opens), it just stays open (diaphragm is in rest position as it would be when you take vacuum tube off).

I already checked the control box underneath the manifold, and traced the most obvious fault to the solenoid.

I replaced it with the solenoid controlling the resonator (front bumper) bypass, as I plan to install CAI shortly.

The 'repair' didnt work.

My questios:
- are these solenoids interchangeable?
- does ECU send signal in beginning 0- 4500 rpm (closed) or after 4500 rpm?
- what signal does the ECU send to (de)activate solenoid, pulsed or constant?
- what input signals does the ECU use to determine (de)activation of the solenoid

I look forward to receiving your responses suggestions, Thanks!!

Default Re: Intake dual runner bypass control question (Mervin)

Ok checked the two wire connector at the vacuum box under the manifold yesterday.

With ignition on, but engine not running, one wire (I think blue one) will have battery current relative to ground.

It however does not have current when checking with the other wire (kinda yellow-orange-ish?) in the connector(???).

I checked this with the solenoid connector controlling the intake resonator bypass valve and this one actually does have battery current relative to ground. This is also the case when connected to other lead in the connector (ignition on).

This all leads me to believe that the ECU send somekind of pulsed (grounded) signal to the intake runner bypass solenoid second wire (yellow).

In my case however, the runners stay open which means that there is no ECU signal.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to test/modify/throw away next????

PLEASE HELP!!!!
