Default Highest rev with stock valvetrain?

Hey guys,

Whats the highest rev that a stock motor can handle, i saw a computer that makes revs to 9g, but i was wondering if this would be safe with a stock valvetrain?

Stock redline is 7400rpm and stock fuel cut is at 7600rpm. I would not go any higher than that. There is no more power to be made on a stock H22A engine above 6900rpm anyway...

I bring 1st to 7400 so I don't drop out of Vtec when I hit second. I shift at 7200 in the rest of the gears. You don't pick up any hp after 7000

A local guy mis-shifted and bent some valves from over-revving. I guess the tach was burried, so maybe he hit 9k or so? I guess you could calculate an estimate from the gear ratios, if you shift from the top of third down into second. Top of second is about 45mph, and top of third is 80? So 80 in 2nd would be roughly 12k? That sounds way too high though. He probably put the clutch back in as soon as possible. I duno, does OBDII log the highest RPM? I don't think the dealer covered the repair under warranty, so they must have known it over-revved. Firedrake might know more details of how it happened... I guess that doen't answer much, except to say that there are definitely limits.

You can take the stock head to 8000 no problem, but N/A you're not going to make power up there anyways......

i saw a jun programed ecu, and claimed that it pulled hard all the way to 9900...anyone think this is true? could my stock motor hold up to it? vtec kicks in at 5600. give me some feedback.
thanks

No.
After 7000 or so the motor N/A won't be making any more power unless you have aftermarket cams and stuff, and 9900 is too high. I'd imagine the JUN ecu you saw was on a JUN motor, with all their really $$$ aftermarket stuff on it.

Firedrake, do you know what rpm jimmi hit when he bent his valves? Do you know what the details were of how it happened?

my dad dropped my car into second while racing it (missed 4th) going 98 mph, burried the tach. 3 months later nothing bad so far.... knock on wood.

Dude! If I was in your situation, I would make daddy pay for a fully built H22 N/A monster! *Hey, he broke it...he fixes it*

I thought it was something crazy like 5th to 2nd, but I don't remember for sure.....thing is, brutal downshifting has a much greater chance of bending valves than revving the car higher (so I've heard).....
