e-brake light comes on??
my friend has a 2000 civic lx sedan and he is having some problems with the ebrake light coming on intermittently while driving. It is something that happens every once in a while and has him concerned... does anybody kno what this problem is??? how do i fix this for my friend?? I'm thinkin its jus a stupid ebrake sensor am i right?
Another thing you can check is to make sure that he hasnt spilled a coke or coffee around the eBrake handle. There is a little swith dont there that makes a circuit when the handle is lifted. If you have some goo (coke, hubba bubba, coffee, spooge) it could possible make the circuit come on and think your parking brake is up.
This happened to me about a week after I spilled a Coke in mine

thanks for all ur input guys... my friend is comin down to my place this evening so i can actually inspect his ride... but i remember readin in the helms not to mix different types of brake fluid... so is it still coo for me to top off the brake fluid reservoir with some random brake fluid or wat?? cuz he fo sho won't kno what fluid he used last time.
Personally I really dont think it has anything to do with the brake fluid. The ebrake has a mechanical switch located right next to it. Also the eBrake has nothing to do with the hydraulic fluid as it has a cable running from the handle to the rear brakes. The exception to this would be 4 wheel discs. Also, Im not 100% positive that the hydraulic system doenst utilise the "brake" light for a low fluis indicator, that you should consult your owner's manual about.
Hope this helps. I could very well be wrong but I just dont think it is fluid.

ko guys... i think we've pretty much established that its the brake fluid and that it is a tad bit low... so wat am i supposed to top it off with? is it safe to top it off with any brand brake fluid? its jus a little low. like its rite below or nearly at the min line he has told me. wat to do?
I believe you're thinking of power steering fluid. As far as brake fluid goes, I've always used whatever was laying around. Never had any problems. PS fluid can be purchased at Autozone/Advance...just for future reference.
thanks for all the input guys... jus finished werkin on his car and after compressing his pistons to put in the new pads, the brakefluid came back up to acceptable operating level so its coo now... and when i have daylight i will bleed out his brake fluid & replace it all. Thanks again.
