h22 or turbo single cam?
I am about to get a 92 dx hatch. I am wondering on the best route? H22a or turbo single cam? The biggest issue I am running into is I would like to still have decent cornering. I know that the 22 will impair this, however is there a way to still have good cornering?
You probably would be happiest going b series, both the choices you have in mind will require serious wrench time and know how. If you feel you are ready for that, not saying your not, then go for it . If I were you I would just buy a Gsr and call it a day, you will be spending the same amount of $money$ if not less...And you will have that Honda reliability agian....Good Luck

dude your talking about two different extremes. I dont agree that h22 is the best bang for your buck. 4200 you can have a type r motor or an LSVtec turbo. Single cam turbo isnt a bad setup, but you can only get so much out of a SOHC motor. DOHC motors have more potential from the start, but are not necessarily going to take a SOHC turbo vs stock DOHC. Its all preference.... what's your purpose??? Do you want to drag, street strip race, auto X, or road race?
i would love to see a type-r motor for 4200 swapped in and or a ls/vtec turbo for that price. Must be a pretty crappy turbo kit! A civic with a stock h22a can run low 14s to high 13s on street tires. I have seen H22a civics with just bolt ons and slicks run 13.0 to 13.2's I have never seen a type-r motor with bolt ons in a civic no matter what price run those times.
I would go either b-series or H22. I'm personally leaning more towards an h22 swap right now. But that's because I want a sick all-motor set-up. If I was going turbo, I'd look towards a GSR. But then again, it's all in what you want.
h22 with 100 shot of nitrous and slicks you are in the low 12's, my friend did it
Just remember, once you go H22 it is very hard to go back to anything else.
i would stear away from the h series engines, cause the way they mount in civics, they sit at an angle. You'de prolly be much happier with a b series engine, 1) they weigh less 2) they rev higher, ITR revs to 9000, where as even the H22 euro-r revs only to 7600. So basically while the h22 is shifting into second, the b18 is still pulling in first. 3) There are A LOT more options open to a b series engine over an h series. Well thats just my opinion anyways, but good luck with what ever you choose
I say go with the h22 because almost everybody on this board are against. do something different and follow what you heart desires and not by what people tell you what you should get.

I've driven a turbo D16 EG hatchback, B16 EG hatchback, B18C EG hatchback, B20 EG hatch (w/GSR tranny), a turbo B20 EG hatchback, and also a H22 EG hatchback (with NOS at the track). Getting to the point, the turbo D16 is cool if you want to go a little faster and look/sound cool, but it's worthless when it comes to racing or power on demand. It feels like a stock Mitsu Eclipse but sounds a little "cooler." The B16 hatch has about the same topend, if not a little better than a turbo D16 hatchback. Obviously the B18C GSR hatch will be faster than both but a B20 all-motor hatch w/GSR tranny is approximately the same power/feel as a B18C.... no joke. I ran very similar times with both motors. A turbo B20 feels faster than a H22 hatchback, but both are fun in their own ways..... turbo B20 and NOS'd H22 run about the same 1/4 mile times, FYI (well, my car did with both setups).
Bottomline, do want you want to do and what your pockets will allow you to do, but a turbo SOHC motor isn't worth it IMO. Either get a B-series motor and turbo that (if you want some good power) or go H22 and play with that. If you ask me what I would do if I could do it all over again, it would all depend on what type of use I'll put the car through (daily driving vs. road racing vs. drag racing), but for a well-rounded setup, all motor B18/B20 or even the H22 is an excellent choice.

A stock B18B LS motor and a stock B20 motor, both with the same size T3/T04E turbo on it, both boosting 8 lbs of boost..... you don't feel any difference. The only slight difference that you may feel is the initial take off and low end torque but otherwise once the turbo spools up at around 4500, the car just takes off and there really isn't any difference in feel with a B18 and B20 motor, running the same setup. Obviously you can make one faster than the other with tuning and upgrading parts and what not, but until you do that you won't really see much of a difference.

from my experience with honda swaps i would suggest going with the b18c1. it maintains all reliability, you can run a/c and power steering and it won't affect the handling of the car. in my 93 dx 4dr i have a lot of fun with no complaints. the swap is clean and looks stock to the untrained eye (once i was almost allowed to run in the g-stock class in autox but i was honest and pointed out my engine to the official) if you get the gsr swap you'll be happier with yours since you'll be even lighter since your car is a hatch. taking all this into consideration, the b18 leaves you plenty of options down the road as well. you can always turbo, s/c or nitrous later if you want more.
