Okay people, I have a set of 15x6 Rota Slipstreams with 195/50/15 Pirelli P7000's I was using for street driving.

I'm picking up a cheap set of 14" Del Sol Si wheels with winter tires I have no use for.

What should I do? AutoX on my 15" Rotas with the Pirellis or race on the 14" Del Sol Si wheels and mount up some good tires.

What tire size would you recommend on the 14's if I go with them?

put Azenis on the 14's...best bang for your buck.

 

how wide are the 14's? run the widest rim, because you'll be able to fit the most rubber on them

 

I found 195/60/14's from both the tirerack and discount tire I might be interested in:

Tirerack has Yoko AVS Intermediates $41 each (plus shipping)

Discount has Falken Azenis Sports for $51 (shipping included)

I'd really like some real race tires but I can't afford that right now.

How much experience do you have autoxing? If you're just starting out, the P7000 on 15s will do just fine. Save ur cash for race tires later...

 

For $10 bux more, I'd go with the Azenis...night and day in traction even on wet conditions. One of the best street tires out there. Only drawback that I've heard, it hydroplanes on puddles...(like most tires anyway).

 

Are you thinking about R compounds? Toyo RA-1, Kumho Victoracer, etc? Either wheel will work ok, but neither is ideal (they're too narrow). A 205 width tire will fit on either wheel.

If you're just doing a good street tire, mount some 205 width Azenis on the 15s (I think the Azenis only comes in a 195 in 14").

I've been AutoXing for 3 yrs. I didn't do it much last year though. This is when I had my ITR and I just raced on the stock RE10's (which were excellent I must say).

.....this season in the rex, I'm running 14" oem hx rims with azenis.

I can't think of a better combo for low $ and anything better would be race rubber.

 

Run the Rotas with some 205/50 Azenis and use the 14" Del Sol wheels for street use.

 

i thought he was trying to save some $$...so ideally, using the 15's for street since it has good tires and 14's with crappy tires (replace with Azenis) and use for racing. The smaller/lighter 14 inch rims will probably give you a bit/tad more on accelaration. Only drawback is the 195 size as suppose to a 205 on 15's but 195 to a 205 shouldnt be that much of a difference if you're just starting.
