Taking the stock CD player out on a ek
My CD player won't work, its asking for a code.
I need to get the S/N number off of it, so i can get it from the dealership.
Whats is the safestest way to get the CD player out from a 99 civic without braking anything.
Thanks

its not that hard, just very tight crammy places. best bet is to take out the bottom center console where your cup holders are, there should screws on the site, then you SHOULD be able to reach for a bolt at the top, and just push it out. good luck

i have a 99 coupe so i dont know if its the same but this is how i do it... you have to unscrew your whole center console(from where your e-brake is all the way to your cupholder) after u remove all of this u will be able to see 4 bolts that hold everything together(climate control and deck) unscrew these and u should be able to pull the whole piece out... then u unplug all harnesses that hookup with the climate controls and then u should be able to get to the screws that hold the deck in there... i think thats all

it's crazy pain. if you know what you're doing, it might be easier. my car was stolen and when the body shop was working on it, they disconnected the battery so my player didn't work also. they unscrewed everything and it took about 30 minutes since they didn't know how. but once they got the diagram, it was more of a breeze.
i would call your dealer up and ask. i called my dealer and they asked for my name, address, etc a while ago when my battery died and they gave me the code. i don't know if they are allowed to or not but.
also, check all your materials they gave you when you bought the car (wait, this is only for if you bought it straight from a dealer). there should be a five digit code (for ek's) and you just push that number in.
good luck!

I just did mine today. You have to take the plastic off from under the steering wheel and under the radio. Open the glove box there are 2 screws on the left side there. Now you are at the radio. Now pull the black plastic off from around the head unit and a/c, heater controls. Don't pull it all the way out. You have to unplug the the wires from all the controls first. Then it wil come out.
Are you sure the dealership will give you the code.

and yes the dealorship WILL give me the code, all i need is the VIN of the car, and the serial number from the CD player.
These are the two screws you're talking about right. I can only get the outer screw out, and after i take the screws out the radio still doesn't budge.

This is from the back.

All this was piece of cake.

I think there is only 2 8mm bolts on the bottom and it should come out.
You need to take the black plastic off in this picture.

The part around the radio with the heater controls. Just pull the sides up and unhook the wires to the controls. Now thats off. With that off and with the screws it should slide out.

Yes I just used my hands. Get a little bit of your fingers behind some of the plastic and pull thats how I did mine. There is just clips holding it in. You could try a screwdriver but I would not do that. Pull up on the whole side at the same time you don't want to just get half of it and brake it. I don't know what else to tell you. Go to the audio part they might be able to give/tell you some better ways to do it.
