Im just curious what you can do to a car to improve sound/performance without spending any money.( this does not include stealing stuff ) and I want to try and stay street legal here.

If you have a 4th gen, cut out the fog light area on the CAI side for increased air flow into that area, advance timing 2* (Make sure you have 93+ octane), make sure you valves are adjusted, cut 1" off your shifter for a slightly shorter throw. As stated above, remove floormats, spare tire, trunk trim.

 

Just learning I have about 400 bucks right now and its not going to grow anytime soon so im just chilling till track is over.

 

anythin done to it already so we know what your working with.....btw what year?

 

If money=cost ---------->you can't do anything think to your car as it would involve cost.

 

Gut it out and strip out the AC and ABS. For almost no money($20) you can get a plate to block of the EGR.

 

if a 5th gen, you can clear out the tailights, take out things (wieght reduction), take out the intake resonator, take out curise control and AC, advance timing, and gut out the cat.

How can you clear out the tail lights?

 

you cant advance timing on a 5th gen if you dont have a aftermarket ignition

 

oh yeah you can gut your cat..it will probally sound like crap..but the only way people will know if its gutted is if they actually take it and look at it...so techincally you can get away with it...except if you live in cali...they pretty strict about emissions there

haha clearing the tail lights would drop about one ounce from the weight of the car lol

 

But i dont think he meant that mod as the weight reduction, i had to read that **** twice to make sure i wasnt seeing ****.....
you remove the tail lights and take out the bulb, then using the hole from the bulb you cut or dril into the amber piece and break it into lil pieces that you can pull out with some pliers and then you just have a white turn signal, or put in a red bulb and have red turn signal......or yellow etc.

 

reset ur ECU and let it run for like 10 mins after u connected ur negative wire back to ur battery

It's prob. OBDI, so there's no need. Clear the taillights, advance timing, intake, paint the black front lip and sideskirts to match the car...

 

For NO money and a decent sounding Lude, you can do this...
Remove your intake resonator, remove bottom half of stock filter box and 3M tape the filter to the inside of the top half of air box (so it doesn't fall out), and remove the muffler (you'll be running off the stock resonator which sounds pretty good for a free mod--that's what I have done). If you do that, you basically have a short ram intake (with some slight heat protection), free flowing exhaust, and you lose ~30lbs in the process. Hope that helps

Hey some of you older members might remember that sight a guy had about free mods.Something like Brady's Free Mods.It showed the coolant bypass,flapper valve trick.and a few others. If anyone can remember post it i think it caould help this guy.

 

There's nothing that can be done to make any real difference. Bottom line is speed costs money. But you said you have 400$ why not get an intake, it's a good mod to start out with.
