89 Accord Struts on 88-91 CRX...
I was wondering why some people do this. I am going to replace the struts on my car. I took both struts and put them side by side and the Accord one is about 1 1/2 inch shorter then the CRX. Does that mean that the car would be lower? More or less bouncy? If anyone has experience with this setup please let me know. I have Skunk 2 coilovers btw...
i haven't experienced it myself yet but i was thinking about trying it. It makes the ride a little lower (about 1-1.5") and allows a stock like ride. I'm pretty sure that only the fronts can be used and not the rears. HIH

They are shorter so when used in 88-91 Civic/CRX's they give you a 1" drop or so without losing ride quality. Pretty much a shortened strut. Ham'ed Hatch can tell you anything you want to know about Accord struts in Civics.
I was just looking into this since I am running Coilovers. I used to have Jamex springs and struts which had lowered strut bodies. I went to the junkyard and measured 89 Accord struts and they were 1.5" shorter and then I measured 89 Prelude struts and they were 2" shorter. the rears on the Accord and the Prelude were longer and will not work only the fronts will.
Looks like I am buying adjustable struts for a Prelude and no need to buy forks since they will bolt right up. Hopefully I can find some shorter rear struts soon.
Hope this helps.

Ive never heard of using Prelude struts up front. So that is possible? Ive also heard that the wagon rear struts are shorter than Civics. Ive never seen it done thats just what ive heard. If you ever see a wagon at the junkyard, measure up a Civic strut and see if its true.
why not just leave the brake line holder off and slide the stock strut through farther through the shock fork... u can get an inch that way

if you already have lowering springs on your car...would adding accord struts lower the car any more than it already is? or would it just improve ride quality?

shocks/struts dampen the up and down movement to make it more smooth and tolerable
The 89 Accord and Prelude both use the same wishbone/fork as the 88-91 CRX. The factory spring seat location and shape is not correct for the CRX but if you are using a threaded sleeve system that stands on the factory spring perch, that negates that problem and you adjust the car where you want for height.
I have investigated this in the KONI product line and for these years the Accord actually has a more aggressive valving than does the Prelude and CRX. The Accord and Prelude shocks are not externally damping adjustable but the CRX fronts are.
So if you are looking to do a cheap shock that will give you a shorter body, then the Accord front would be a decent choice is you have coil-over sleeves. If you are going to use good adjustable shocks or use normal CRX shaped springs, the the CRX version would be ther better choice and as mentioned previously you can push them farther down into the wishbone if you want to.

springs hold the car up at its ride height

Just by adding a shorter shock...you WILL lower the car by the shortened amount...if you don't have adj coilover setup then you will be stuck with the lowered height.
would this be the same for a 90 civic hatchback dx????
i need to buy some shocks and i got coilovers going on. I am in college and cant afford any real good shocks.
if they do work, 89 accord shocks in front... what in back?

The reason I am going to run Prelude over Accord shocks is the fact that I am running an LS for now and will be swapping in a B20B VTEC. The Prelude has a B20A already in it so they would be valved perfectly for the weight.

Competely different and would not work. Lower wishbone diameters are different, longths are much much longer, spring seat shapes are different, rear lower celvices are different. Apples and oranges.
