buying a civic for my gf for under $5k
checked auto trader and what not trying to find a civic ex that's under 5,000. only onces i could find had like 140,000+ milage or higher. Question is, like even at that high of a milage, do the motors last that long without major repairs? Assuming that the owner did regular maintenance.
iono i guess worse comes to worse when we get the car and if the motor is dying then its getting a good ol' b-series in there. but just wanted to know if you guys thought that buying a car with that high milage would be good. we need a car that'll last for another 5-6 years with just regular maintenance and replacing a part or two here and there.

it is always better to get lower mileage, but i mean u could always rebuild it or something, plus just as miles get higher lots of little things tend to go wrong or need adjustment ect, and can get pricey if you dont know how to do it yourself or want to do it yourself
i would just keeo looking if i were you, sometimes it just takes more time to get the car you want...but it will pay off in the end because you will be happier and your gf will be happier

basically, even after me begging her to swap a motor, she just wants something that's going to be the most reliable thing on wheels. loving honda like i do, a 92-95 civic just came to my head and i can't really think of a more reliable car for around that price range.
plus parts for a 92-95 civic are really abundant.

there's more problems that go along with high milage than just engine stuff though
worn bushings, ball joints, shocks, brakes, seats, general interior parts, wheel bearings, engine mounts, fuel filter
thats not to say there arnt good high milage cars but they have a lot more potential for problems

yea..my mom bought a 93 ex i think..92-95 ex for 3950 locally here and it had 89000 miles on it..she got a steal..imo miles dont really matter as long as the person has taken care of it. and if it goes out.. just swap. or if your planning to do a swap anyway..just buy it. good luck
