Well i went to pick up my engine to take it to the place where im going to do my swap. I was going to put on the tranny before i put the engine in the truck...when i noticed a little problem. Im missing a piece for the tranny...well it looks like its supposed to be the piece that connects that bottom of the tranny to the block. The side of the block where the tranny is bolted to only comes down 3/4 of the way...and the back of the flywheel can be seen from the bottom of the engine. Its really hard to explain. Do you guys know what that piece is? Where can i get one? Its probably gonna be a bitch to find. DAMN IT...i knew that something was going to go wrong but i didnt think that it would happen before the install.

I'm pretty sure I know what you mean. Its about 2" high and the width of the engine. I haven't had one for a year on my b16. I keep meaning to get one. What motor do you have?
If its a b-series then any b-series engine should have one, and same thing goes for d-series.
But I wouldn't let that stop you from putting the engine in. That cover plate is just like a splash gaurd.

Just get your engine bolted in, and try and deal with it in the mean time. Call the place where you bought it, and have them track one down. It is good to have, because otherwise debris will get into your clutch housing, and it will not be benificial to the clutch. Ryan

Its a b18a1. So this isnt a "MUST HAVE" in order for the car to run properly? Will the tranny be fine when its only bolted by the top? How long will i be safe without it? Ive got an Exedy clutch so i dont want anything to happen to it.I bought it from an individual person and he wont answer any of my emails so im going to have to track one down on my own. Also...i know that this may be a stupid question but is there supposed to be a gasket between the tranny and block. My Saturn didnt have one but this tranny looks like it did. Thanks.

none of that is absolutely necessary. it won't be stronger where it bolts to the block becase its just a tin shield to keep out dust.

Since its not all that important anyway...can i make one? I have plenty of sheet metal and i have access to everything i need to make one? Is there anything special about them? Thanks.

Tranny has no gasket.
I just put mine on my B16A last night. On the B16, there was also 2 brackets that attached to the flywheel cover plate, which are pretty important. Do you have those? BTW, it's much easier to install out of the car.

OK, you can fabricate one out of sheet metal, but it may be difficult, who knows. There are 2 L-shaped brackets that bolt to the tranny, and to the block. They bolt in on those holes that you see running around the opening. Its hard to explain, someone might be able to take a picture. Ryan
PS, the L-shaped brackets should be used for strength, and if you dont have them, I suggest getting some. Search junk yards, and call hmotorsonline.com, and ask steve if he could get your parts.
