shaving experience needed
Probably get better answers in the appearance forum but with the years of watching my dad build hot rods I would say sand all the **** out and replace it.
Be sure to prep the surface a little better this time

I did my side molding shaving the same way.
did you lay fiberglass underneath the bondo?
they way to do it is:
sand down to the metal. (get a grinder it'll make it quicker)
lay fiberglass to the exposed metal.
i'd lay fiberglass to get whatever you are shaving as close to the surface level as possible using fiberglass.
then lay on some bondo to even everything out.
if you don't put fiberglass underneathg and actually use bondo to fill in hole or whatnot you'll get water in your bondo and eventually cause it to rott out.
perfect example is when you are shaving the side moldings.
the holes left from removing the moldings some folks just lay on the bondo with no fiberglass.
water goes inside the door, and does get on your door skin from the inside, and the bondo is right there, and water eventually causes it to rott out and the bondo start cracking.
i shaving my side moldings with fiberglass and bondo (more fiberglass than bondo). it's been well over a year and a half not a single crack.

Don't make the filler too thick. I'm guessing that you're trying to shave a hole in the sheetmetal??? then you'll need to weld sheetmetal!!! you can't shave a hole just using body filler!!!!
sand all the **** off, Weld sheetmetal in and use as little filler as possible.
i even used kitty hair first over the metal and then filler to smooth it out.
Kitty hair is stronger and resists moisture better than filler..
and make sure you don't put filler over paint, if you need to add filler make sure its on bare metal

I should add that you need to primer it after with "professional" quality primers, such as an EPOXY Primer.
