CD Changer in the Glove box
Help me out guys/gals, i wnat to move my alpine 6 CD changer into the glove box. won't fit under the seat. have you seen any tech specs on how to do this. It's too big but before i start cutting plastic, i wanna be sure. i need to know the best way to mount and secure it. thanx
Too big how? Length, width, or height wise? Usually its mounted to the back side (towards front of car) of the glovebox. Just cut some holes for the wires and you should be all set.
what kind of car do you have?
i am curious on tips on how to do this also, i have a crx, ......but instructions on how to do it on any honda/acura would do

It fit's height and width but no way in length. It's way too deep. It looks like i have to cut a big hole on the backside of the glovebox for it too fit. My first choice is to not have to cut such a big hole. any thoughts.
it's a 96 civic hx but it's too deep. i want to avoid having to cut out such a big hole for the changer to fit. can it fit another way in there?

In order for you to have the cd changer in the glovebox is to cut the back of the glove box out. I had to do this w/ my 6 disc Alpine unit. Took along time to get it just right though. Looks factory if you ask me. I'll see if I have a picture and post it later.
Ok....here are some pics for you guys.

Basically, i made a template of the size of the changer out of cardboard. I then made a template of the space outline in the glove box. Took many measurements and checked them numerous times. Went and bought some abs plastic, traced the outline of the cardboard panel to fit in the glove box. Best to tool to cut the plastic was a dremel. I was very careful so that I didn't screw it up. Once I was satisfied with the fitment, I then traced the outline of the changer onto my piece of cutout abs plastic. Once that was done, came the crucial event of blasting out the back of the glove box w/ my dremel tool. I didn't have to cut that much out but once I was done, I dry fitted everything together. Fit like a glove!!! Pulled everything back apart and then made afiberglass covering for the back (didn't want my changer getting all phucked up in the back). Put everything back together, found some plastic trim and a art & craft store and voila!!! ALL DONE. It basically took me a good weekend to get it right to my liking.
Enjoy the pics!!!

the ones i installed, all i needed to cut out was the corners of the back of the glovebox. it was a tight fit. you then screw the changer (with short screws) to the inside of the glovebox door.
Raven,
If you are asking if the changer skips while driving? The answer is no. The fiberglass was to cover over the holes I created in the glove box to make the changer fit. I wanted the changer to have some protection from who knows what, anything I guess. I didn't take any pics while I was making this unfortunately so it might be hard to visualize as well as explain.
Sorry.

That's one clean install.
To the poster: find a glove box off another Civic and experiment with that. Also, look at www.sounddomain.com.

To trim around the changer, I went to AC Moore (arts & craft store by me) and looked around for a while and stumbled across some plastic trim that I modified. Cut a little here and a little there and presto - I had a nice looking trim ring.
In my EG civic the ONLY 6 disk CD changer that would fit the way I wanted it to was the Sony X-plod model. I mounted it level in the upper right corner of the glove box and trimmed out parts of the inside structure of the dash and the glove box so that it would close properly. The box itself still has lots of room for the miscelaneous **** that usually gets stuffed in there.
all the others are just too deep for that mounting strategy and will hit the HVAC blower. The sony can be made to fit though.
Of course if you don't really car about using the glove box for for storage any more I can't see why the alpine wouldn't fit.

Nice install. I have an Alpine CDA 620 (I believe it's the model year before your CDA 624), mounted in my Accord's trunk (where the factory CD changer would have been located).
Was there a factory CD changer trunk mounting kit for the '97 (or '96) civic? If so, there is a place in the trunk where a new changer will fit, though you might have to make your own mounting kit.
