4th electro-illuminecent install Qestions
Ok, I did a search, but i could not find any information about this other then a few people saying it could be done. But no information on how to do it.
I have a 92 prelude, I have been able to get my hands on a 96 electro-illuminecent cluster with the little gray box attached to it for a very good price. I haven’t taken my cluster in a few months, but i believe that there are more places to plug connectors into the electro-illuminecent cluster then on mine.
Can anyone tell me what other wires i would need to make this thing work or am I screwed.
Any information orlinks to other sites about this would be appreciated.

http://www.hpoa.org, check out their FAQs forum; there is a write up I believe...
I've got a 92 lude with a swap. What's the difference between elecro-illiminecent and mine?
ok, since it was kind of a pain to find this info i am going to post it her on H-T. This is the info that i was looking for.

You will need some knowledge/skill of wiring in order to do this good, so be forewarned. Also, this write up is for those who have the 94+ cluster and inverter(silver box attatched to the cluster with a wire harness), and with NO 94+ dash wiring harness. If you have the harness, I really don't think you need to be reading this, as it should be prractically plug and play. You have to know how to solder if you don't have some extra harness clips that fit into the gauges because the 92-93 dash harness doesn't have all the required clips. Ok, on with the write up...
Holding the gauges so that you're looking at the back/top of them, there are 5 pin sets, they are labeled (from left to right) as "H", "J", "K", "L", and "M". The pin sets "K", and "L" are used for the inverter, so the sets we will be dealing with are "H", "J", and "M".
Pin set "H" has 10 pins, "J" has 5, and "M" also has 5. The pins are also read from left to right. The following labels each pin, to the wire you have to hook it up to:
"H":
Pin#) Wire color- Wire purpose:
1) Yellow- Power
2) Pink- Speedo
3) Yellow- Power
4) Red w/ Black stripe- Dimmer switch
5) Black- Ground
6) Orange
7) No Wire
8) Light Green (must tap into the wire harness for the dash clock, and run a tap from the light green wire, to the cluster)- Mileage Memory
9) Red w/ Yellow Stripe- Bilnkers
10) No Wire
"J":
1) No Wire
2) No Wire
3) No Wire
4) Green w/ Yellow Stripe- Right Blinker
5) Red w/ Blue Stripe- High Beam
"M":
1) Blue w/ Silver dots- Tach
2) Black- Ground
3) Red w/ Yellow Stripe- High Beam
4) Green- Left Blinker
5) Blue - SRS
VIOLA, you should have fully functioning Electroluminescent Gauges! Enjoy!

its 10 times easier if you get the harness from a 94 and up...then u simply plug it in and go...i bought a vtec cluster this week, went to a junkyard yesterday and got the whole Harness, inverter box, and dimmer relay for free..i was stoked...peace

kinda OT but I have a JDM cluster I want to install on my 92 lude. It's off a 93 JDM VTEC prelude(non-electrolumincent). Just wondering if I have to do any modifications to make it fit?

Hey, I'm Ryu, from the write up. If you guys have any q/s lemme know and I'll do my best to answer 'em.
As for the JDM cluster, what most people do is just take apart the clusters and swap the faces so that you're using the JDM face in the USDM Housing. You do this because 1) the JDM Cluster has a different shape than the USDM one and 2) the harness is a little different I believe, its not just plug and play. Also you can keep your mileage this way.

Hey I have a question...I was taking off my gauges and I started on the left hand side. How do you take off the strip at the bottom? I just don't want to break anything. From what I saw in the pics it comes off with the gauge on the left side?
Thanks.
Thanks.
hey sup sik96prelude, im still interested in those gauges, im tryin to get a hold of u on msn, but havin a hard time lol...

440? your kidding, right? If your interested in a jdm cluster, check eBay there on there all the time... usually end between 20-50 dollars.... if you want a usdm cluster check Car-Parts.com they can be found on there easily for less than $100.
For the JDM cluster, it will bolt right in place of the USDM cluster ... but it is not just plug and play.. If someone can get the wiring diagram for the jdm prelude you could easily hook up the cluster using the diagram in your helms manual...

well, im still waiting for my harness and center console to arrive but i only paid $90 bucks for all of it.......I will post pics of the change over when i finally get the rest of the stuff.
hey anyone that has installed the EL, has anyone had any problems with the turn signal indicators?
EDIT
It took me months for figure this out.
If you used the 94+ wire harness you can fix it by grounding the black wire on the extra connector on the passenger side. there are two black wires but one is blk/wht. you want to use the blk wire which is on one of the sides of the connector.

Can someone post a pic of the wire harness that connects the speedometer to the dash wiring harness?? I have to go to the salvage yard to show him the one I need.
